I am 1 week post banding and have been suffering for Constipation. It started 3 weeks ago with the pre-surgery diet. I am drinking lots of Water, but I am still on the mushy food diet. What would you recommend?

I had the same problem and my surgeon recommended Milk of Magnesia. It worked! Found out the hard way to take the lower dosage. :)

My doctor also reccommends Milk of Magnesia. And yes, definitely take the 2 Tbsp not 4 Tbsp dose.

I had a probiatic, FF yogurt and everything went whoosh by the time I finished it. It was also a great treat after all that liquid.< /p>

Thanks for the suggestions. I have tried the milk of magnesia, but not much success. I will try the yoghurt tomorrow.

It depends how stuck you are. Like everyone else they say Milk of Magnesia. It didn't work for me, I ended up in the ER, after 2 enemas, and Miralax I had relief. I keep miralax in the cupboard, its a mild laxative and my surgeon was fine with that. Everyones body is different, and somethings that work for some people doesn't always work for others, but it is always worth a shot. I would start with the Milk of Magnesia, warm Prune juice, or other probiotic first. I would just take a laxative only in extreme circumstances.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
