New and looking for some support ( Tricare)

Recommended Posts

So here I am. Nice to meet you all :P

Back in April I had my first meeting with my surgeon and went through a 6 month diet nutrition class, psych eval, all that good stuff, Thursday was my last day of wait and all my paper work has been sent off to Tricare for Approval. I decided to go on to the tricare website to check out the requirements again and its making me a little nervous.

  • Is 100 pounds over ideal weight for height and bone structure and has one of these associated conditions: diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cholecystitis, narcolepsy, Pickwickian syndrome, hypothalamic disorders or severe arthritis of the weight-bearing joints
  • Is 200 percent or more over ideal weight for height and bone structure
  • Has had intestinal bypass or other surgery for obesity and because of complications, requires another surgery (takedown)

These are the requirements now.

Why im nervous

My BMI is 43 and I have fat deposits on my liver which can become something more and dangerous. But im not sure if that really counts as a co-morbid.

Also I weigh 276 and my ideal weight is 140 which is about 4 pounds shy of 200 %

Anyone else have tricare and do u think I might be approved, This waiting period is killing me even tho its only been a few days

Well since it says "for ideal height and bone structure" that gives the doc some leeway instead of a hard and fast BMI. I think you'll be fine but its hard to say! Good luck!

Your doctor's request for you to be approved for surgery carries a certain amount of weight with Tricare, and can make the difference for cases where the person is on the edge. Wait and see what they say before you get worried. When I was approved by Tricare, it took three business days till I had my answer. Hang in there.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
