I am also 100% Italian and make macaroni for my husband at least 2 times a week. Fortunately I do not like macaroni of any kind so that was never an issue. I quit smoking 10 years ago after being a heavy smoker for 30 years and my thoughts were the same that I use for the lap band. NEVER say you cannot have anything unless you truly cannot get it down with the band. I tell myself I can have a cookie if I want or a piece of pie and I CHOOSE not to have it because I want the weight off. I have been banded for 3 years and am down 90 pounds. If you tell yourself you cannot have something, you will want it even more and it makes it totally unbearable to change your way of thinking thin.

I never had any fills and cannot get bread down, I choose to have most everything sugar free and macaroni once in a great while might go down one time and not another. Some days I can get chicken down and some days it gets stuck. The band is very fickle and I never know from day to day if I can get something down or not. Stress plays an important part also. If I have a stressful day at work I might not be able to get much down at night for supper. I never regretted the decision to get the band and love it and feel it has saved my life. I am off all meds and feel like a teenager again even though I am 58 years old. Good luck on your decision and like everybody says, each person is so different and has different results with the band.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
