Slipped band, surgery Friday

Recommended Posts

Here's my story. I had a fever and stomach thing last Friday. I started having severe GERD following. Tuesday I called the surgeon's offcie. I went in this morning and he put me in front of the floroscope. I had a slip; he removed all my fill. I had previously had a slip and it was okay after a month of no fill. The band did not go back into shape. He said, " I have to operate in the morning." He will try to repair it, but otherwise will have to remove it. It will be either empty or removed for 2 months. I am, almost, to my 2 year bandiversary, which is Oct. 30. I am 2 lbs below goal at 138. I have been at or near goal weight, give or take 5 lbs, for about 9 months. I am not sure that I can do it on my own. My family all seems to think I am ready. I am nervous. Karen

The band didn't just do everything for you. You did a lot of the work. You changed your patterns and habits. You created life long lessons. The band is a tool, but you can continue the journey with out it. YOU can do this.

Hello everyone! I had my surgery Friday morning and was home before dark last night. Everything went great. I feel good. The surgeon was able to repair my band and NOT take it out to be replaced later. Yeah! So, now, I am starting the diet thing of Clear Liquids for a week and then full liquids for a week. Obviously, I can't bowl on Sunday night. So I will miss at least 2 weeks. Boo to that! Anyway, wanted to update everyone, I feel great(so far, as I am on pain meds, too). Thanks for your good wishes. Karen

Get some supports in place NOW. Think about joining Weight Watchers. Does your doctor have support group meetings? You have been eating well for 2 years, it is time to do it with out the safety net. You know you have the power to do it on your own now!!!!

Karen, I am so happy he was able to repair and not remove. I am in similar circumstances as you all the way around. It is scary to contemplate life w/o the band there to help.

Best wishes, Mimi

Were you able to have your band repaired? I am happy to hear that someone else has had this problem. While I was in the hospital, surgeon had a woman to reposition her band. She was only 6 weeks out! I doin't knmw her story as was told to my husband. Anyway, take care and good luck to both of us!

I'm so glad you were able to keep your band. I am just barely getting started and the thought of losing the band is indeed a scary thought. How can they tell if it has slipped? Good luck with it.

My surgeon could tell by my symptoms. Then he used the floroscope. My symptoms were GERD coughing all night long after having a stomach virus and vomiting,(real vomit), not pbing. Finally, I went to teh surgeon and he did the floroscope after removing my fill. He could see the slip. I hope that you never have to experience that! Karen

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
