2 yrs on, band emptied

Recommended Posts

Hi, i had the op 2 yrs ago and initially i lost 6 and a half stone over the yr. All was great, until i went and had my last fill just before Xmas 2010. At first i just thought the extra vomiting was just my fault , trying to eat as much as i had pre-fill. However after nearly 6 months of constant vomiting and no weight loss, it got to the point where i couldnt even get a cup of Water down. Ended up in A&E and there I discovered that i had Duedonitis and saggy aesophogus, it had been badly stretched buy the food and Fluid not passing through. It was also swollen around the site of the band. Luckily i was able to have the band emptied there and then. After a few days resting the throat i was able to eat and all pain and discomfort gone.

However, later that evening i was in extreme pain and my hubby rushed me to my local hospital again. This time it seems i had gastritis due to stomach acid coming back up through the band, but also it seems the band has moved down slighty altho the hospital was unsure how much. I have gained 1 and half stone back and am devastated, altho its my own fault.

I contacted Dr Chris and now i have to go to London (i live in Germany) pay £99 for a Barium xray and then another £80 consult fee to see him. He seems to think that the band may have not moved enough i can just get a fill and back on track, if it has moved a lot then i will need another op! more money.

My question to ppl is,if all is ok, Do you think i will be able to get back on track, my diet is shocking! i seem to have lost the motivation. Has anyone else had these probs and have you come out the otherside with success. I am starting to think i should of gone for the gastric bypass! Help!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
