I just talked to the nurse who i also banded, and is like the mentor for everything and she allowed me to go to Phase 3- "mechanically soft foods" YAY! So we were goin out with my in laws and i ate some sweet potato, applesauce, mashed potatoes- ( we were at a steak house and I'm a vegetarian, and the only Protein foods that i was allowed was Beans which the waiter says had no meat but were chock full of bacon!)

I felt better and ate very little.. tomorrow will be the first full day of Phase 3, hopefully i can get some energy back!

Sounds good to me!! Just wondering why I am supposed to just stick w Clear Liquids..had surgery 9/29? What state did you have the surgery in??

Had surgery in California (southern)

I'm supposed to be on clear liquid plus Protein shakes for two weeks

then full liquids for week three

Purees week 4 and soft solids week 5.

Not allowed to have Jell-o!

and I am Starving!!!!

Clear Liquids are to help your belly/incisions heal and to make sure your band doesn't slip (early slippage)

Though I am having mashed potatoes that are thinned out since i feel faint!

Hey Neenee,

Thanks for the advice...how long were you on liquids for? It's so annoying to be hungry - sometimes I think it's just mental....how much did u lose? Stress doesn't help either and also feeding a family, etc?

Thanks,

Maddy

I was on liquid for 2 weeks and I was cranky after 1st week. First few days I felt so weird didnt care about eating. I cried alot and was uncomfortable. @wk the hunger came with vengence. and as I said doc visit at 2 wks and surgeon said I could advance to solids in moderation because I had no fill in my band. I drank liquid Protein shots from Walmart, eas Protein shakes, Jello and popsicles which I was sick of after a while. I had the desire to chew something! And yes it was hard feeding the fam and I couldnt chew. I did well under the circumstance. So far down 70 but I havent pushed myself to go further yet

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
