Anybody ever get stuck WITHOUT a band?

Recommended Posts

Hey ya'll. I am scheduled for band surgery next month and for an endoscopy in a couple of weeks to check on this problem, but I was wondering if anyone has trouble getting food down without the band. I have always had this problem. When I eat steak, rice, bread, sometimes even chicken or just anything sticky/hard to chew. Sometimes it will get "stuck" in my esophagus and I will have to either wait until it goes down, or if it won't go down, I have to burp it back up. I am scared because I know this is a problem with the band, but since I already have the problem, I'm worried I won't be able to eat anything at all after surgery!

I scheduled an endoscopy to see what's up, but I have a feeling it's just the way I'm built since I've always had this problem. Maybe I have an overly narrow esophagus? I also wonder if I might have a hernia which could be causing this.

anyway, if anyone else has this issue, please please please share!

I have had it happen but found that it is because I am not chewing my food thoroughly or/and taking to big of bites. I learned that if I slow down take smaller bites and chew well I'm ok.

Me too. Happens alot with rice, Pasta, bread, dry meat. Terrible pressure in chest, painful, can't breathe. A drink forces it down.....BUT since planning for the band I take smaller bites, chew like bananas, and take my time (all in good practice for the band) and it has never... Never... Happened again. *raising hand* It was me all along. I hope you find some resolution. Best of luck friend!

I've never been able to eat bananas or cold hard boiled eggs without this happening. Occasionally it would happen when I really scarfed down McDonalds too.

Glad i'm not alone on this. Maybe the band will actually HELP it! One of the doctors i've seen said it sounded like a form of reflux, and that the band would make it go way. Let's hope!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
