First spend lots of time here. You will get tons of info, brutal honesty, and lots of support! Second I always recommend my favorite blog which takes you through the very first (insurance approval) steps all the way through losing and maintaining a hundred pound loss without ever dieting or exercising. She will make you laugh till you cry and she will answer every question you dont even know you have yet! Good luck!

Her blog is called:

I can't think of much I would change. My PCP suggested I undergo WLS to mitigate problems with

diabetes and sleep apnea, and suggested Cedars-Sinai hospital. It's in Beverly Hills, about 150 miles

from where I live and a horrific drive, but It was worth it. I didn't know it at the time, but it's a Center

of Excellence, accredited by the American College of Surgeons and probably the best place in

southern California to have Lap band surgery done. To date I haven't had a single significant problem.

No pain except for the incisions and port and that was minor.

Absolutely nothing.

I gave up dieting and ate what I wanted in moderation, three meals a day with Portion Control provided by my band. I ignored all the current "wisdom" (fads more like it) about calorie counting, carb counting, high Protein, calorie cycling, five meals a day insanity. I gave up nothing, but I rebalanced my diet. I still eat junk, just less of it.

I began running. I did loads of cardio and a little body weight type strength training at bootcamp, I do body pump when I feel like it, a spin class if I fancy, whatever I feel like doing. I ignored all the current "wisdom" about strength training versus cardio, that running wastes your muscles and makes you skinny fat (pigs arse!), that you should only do interval training, that the elliptical will burn seventeen gajillion calories in only a minute, that you should only train in the fat burning heart rate zone. I'm just more active. Sometimes its more intense than others - occasionally I truly feel like sprinting!

I particularly ignored all the hype and, pardon the french, bullshit to do with Protein shakes, bars, supplements, having this bar before a workout and that shake exactly seventeen minutes and forty seconds after, not one second more or less or it wont work.

Wow - when I type it like that, I just eat and exercise like a normal person. Whodathunk it?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
