Lap Band with Plication anyone ??

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! Just have a question. I am in the process of having my surgery. I was in to the office on Monday and my Dr. was talking to me about bariatric options that I have. I told him I was interested in the Lap Band. He then proceeded to tell me about a fairly new procedure he is doing called "Lap Band with Plication". The way he explained it, it is similar to the lap band but underneath the band, the stomach is sort of folded in half. He states the benefits of this is to prevent band slippage, and also he feels this prevents as many fills needed by the patient to reach their "sweet spot". I've googled this to try and read up on it, but am not really getting anywhere to research. The only thing I'm finding is the Gastric Sleeve procedure which isn't the same thing. Just wondering if anyone has heard of this or even had it done and what are your thoughts or results?

Thanks in advance!

I had the band with plication procedure done 6 weeks ago. I am very happy that I went that route. My doc put 4 CC's fill in on the day of surgery. I have had 2 post op appointments and the nurse practicioner has not seen any need to do another fill yet. Small portions are filling me up and lasting 4-5 hours. I know it is still early, but My weight loss has been steady and I am very happy with the results so far.My ticker shows that I have lost 45 pounds so far. That is including my pre-surgery loss too preparing for the big day. But my loss since surgery has averaged about 3 pounds a week. Like yours, my doc said that adding the plication has seemed to show faster weight loss and sustained results so far. I do know that I am not eating much more than 800 calories a day and am quite satisfied. I have had no sickness at all (knock on wood), no episodes of food getting stuck, or any other complications thus far and I am more active than I am supposed to be at this point. I was up on the day of surgery in the recovery room walking around and doing so well that my doc let me leave on the day of surgery. And by the way, the 3 pounds a week loss since surgery is pretty good because I only weigh 208 now, so for that weight, I am happy with 3 per week.

Good luck with your decision. You are right, though, there isnt a whole lot of information about it on the web. I think it gives you the benefits of the sleeve without the complications of malabsorption and there is no cutting of your organs involved.

I brought the LB w/ Plication up to my Surgeons assistant and she didn't even know what it was. I will Jane to tell her more.... My Q is:

When they fold the stomach in half how is it held, sutures?

Yes, it is held with sutures. I am only 7 days out postop but I know that I am glad I had this done.

I had my surgery at a Center of Excellence and have read articles that relate to the advantages and good results of the band with plication. I am sure there are times when problems arise and it is a fairly new procedure, but that is the case with any surgery including wls. I am happy with my surgery and would recommend it to anyone who asked.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
