10 days out and scared

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled for the end of next week for the band and I am scared to death. I just have this huge fear that i will wake up with the band and be hugely unhappy - I've ruined my life and I can't go back. Has anyone else had this fear? I'm sure intellectually that this is the right thing to do, and reading people's stories I know that it won't be that bad - but it still doesn't stop me from waking up in the middle of the night in a panic. I've got mixed feelings where my emotion wants to cancel but my mind wants to move forward.

Can anyone tell me - I've read that "overeating" is very uncomfortable for those banded - but no one has said what that means - nausea - heart attack like chest pain - vomiting - etc. I don't fear so much overeating as forgetting myself for a moment on a hot day and starting to gulp Water or whatever. I'm today easily able to down a glass or two in one action. Heck I fear being thirsty.

What about hunger? Does the band make you feel deprived - or simply satiated on much less?

i'm on the fifth day of the liquid diet pre-op. I have to say the first 2-3 days were terrible (caffeine withdrawal?) - but now I feel much better - this almost seems normal. I've actually skipped some of the meals or Snacks because I haven't needed them. (pre bed snack of 6 oz yogurt I haven't needed the last two days.- and morning snack of sugar free pudding) While the Protein Shakes are awful, I found one that isn't so bad. I only wish my doctor gave me a meal plan with a little variety. Its the same thing everyday.

Thanks for listening

im 2.5 weeks in and let me tell you I was scared too the very day I got the surgery, but it was just jitters and fear of the unknown.

Sometimes I have to be talked off of the ledge too. So I understand. I can only speak from my experience.

The band is reversable so even if by chance it doesnt work you can have it removed.

I have ate too much but I didnt feel sick to my stomach or anything, maybe I didnt overeat too much. I just felt thanksgiving full and my left side starts to ache a bit. Then 10 min later it goes away and I just feel full.

I'm a huge Water gulper. I've learned to take sips and not to chug a lug. You can too! But i accidentally chugged hard and not much happened. Just a cold feeling in my gut and I burped a few times.

I was not a huge eater before, but now I'm hardly ever hungry. I know others that have been banded and are starving before their fills. My fill is on 09/27. I dont feel deprived at all.

I had my surgery on 5/11/2011 and will try my best to answer your questions.

I've only had 2 fills so far and when I over eat it just fills like a tightness under my breast bone. Sort of like what you felt when you were full being non-banded but just in a different location...higher up. I have never gotten sick from over eatting as soon as I feel this I quit eatting. Throwing up isn't fun. I've heard that if you over eat too much then the food just sort of backs up into your throat and you throw it up and also that this can stretch your new stomach and cause band slippage. Everyone is different. I don't think you will have a problem realizing you are getting full.

As far as hunger goes....I have only felt "hunger pains" in the morning of if I've been bad and haven't eatten all day. I just never feel them anymore.

Order some unjury Protein Powder, it is really the best tasting there is and you will be needing it after your surgery. Try the chicken Soup one for a quick lunch!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
