I everyone,

My name is Kathy and I was just banded Friday, Sept. 16th. Surgery wise, I feel ok with only minor pain and discomfort. Still taking pain meds a couple of times a day. Not feeling super hungry and finding it difficult to take in 3 protien shakes a day. Mostly drinking Water and broth with probably one shake a day. Mouth feels crazy dry from the meds and I can't seem to get rid of that. My gas pain is minimal...I have been trying to move around to miminize that. My biggest issue right now is the diarrhea. While I risk giving TMI, I can't get over the feeling that I am just going to pass gas, and something else happens entirely! Anyone else experience this? for how long? I can't stand it. Can I take an anti-diarrheal liquid medication for this?

You should probably ask your doc about any meds you want to take. The diarrhea is normal, i had it for 3 days my first week post op. It could be from the medicine they gave you during surgery, or just the fact that you are doing liquids. Liquids go in...and liquids come out lol... I am 2 1/2 weeks post op. I had bad gas pains in shoulder and side, you are lucky yours are minimal. I was not very hungry at all the first week or so out, but now i feel like im starving :/

Water in water out... Ask your Dr... Maybe liquid Imodium he might aprove. But still ? It's all liquid.

Congratulations, Kathy. I would call your doctor as well to find out what he recommends. Mine had me purchase Pepto Bismol just for this problem, but I haven't had to use it yet. Had a couple of close calls, so I understand what you are talking about. It is not a fun place to be. Hope you can get some answers tomorrow.

I had the opposite problem and still fight with Constipation after my whole life having the opposite, I am not sure what to do. I have colitis and Fiber and laxatives are definitely a NO NO. Maybe some over the counter meds might help. Get well soon.

Well, I did take one dosage of a liquid anti-diarrheal product and it has help greatly. No more surprises! Thanks so much for your ideas and inputs. Guess my system was just in shock. Feeling a lot better and just 1 more day until in can begin to eat sliders. I don't think yogurt and mashed potatoes will ever taste better!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
