How long post-op does it hurt when you sit?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'm 3 weeks post-op and was feeling much better physically about a week ago. All of a sudden now, it hurts around my abdomen when I sit down, as if something is pressing down on something. I don't think it's my port, because that is located higher than where the pain is presenting.

Anyone experience this before? Is it normal to feel better and then feel worse again? The only reason I can think of is that once I started to feel better and became more active maybe I aggravated something in there or something moved??

Not sure but feeling concern and since it's saturday I don't think calling the doctor will be much help. I don't have a fever or other symptoms.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

JoJo

Is the pain a muscle pain and is it near an incision site? I was bent over yelling at the dog the other day an got a bad pinch by on of the incisions near my port and i am guessing i just probably aggravated the incision that is on the muscle. I am only about 2 weeks post op or a little more. i lost count already.

I am almost 9 months post op and I experienced the same pain/discomfort as you. I'll be completely honest with you, the discomfort and sometimes pain lasted for me for about 6 weeks. I even asked my doctor about it because I wasn't sure I could take it if that feeling was going to last forever. The more weight I lost, the better it got. I am a full time student, so a ton of my time is spent sitting and sometimes I would just have to get up and move around to "make some room" :) It takes a little while for your body to heal completely. Not only do they cut through skin, tissue and muscle, but they also move your insides around to get to your stomach. Plus most people have their port stitched to their muscle, so it takes a little while to get better. Even now, depending on what I do or how strenuous my day is, I still have occasional discomfort. Hang in there, it will get better and it is so worth it! Good luck to you on your journey!

I'm 7 weeks out and still have discomfort when I sit straight up or bend over too fast... I try to sit back when I feel the pain... Also my pants hit a couple inches below my port so when I'm sitting my pants somewhat push on my port which is annoying and sometimes painful... You'll learn to adjust your movements around the port. I know I have. Still learning :-)

And yes, I did feel better after about 8 days... And then when I would overdo it, thinking I was back to my old self, I would get pain.... I think that's maybe normal.

Hello

My surgery was September 19. Funny thing is my September 19 was a Monday not a Friday like the first post said. Maybe that person lives in a different time zone...lol.

Anyway I had no pain until today. I'm 2 days out. Just wondering why pain today and not before? Anyway, everything was smoothe as silk until today. Pain Meds rock. Any suggestions or ideas? Not real bad pain but enough to notice. Just weird

I'm so happy. I was depressed for so long because of weight. Now I just keep smiling. This is huge.

Going back to sleep now. TTYL

J

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
