Does anyone know if it is safe for people with the LapBand to use Phentermine? I know certain meds are not allowed and wasn't sure if this is one of them. I'm considering adding it to my daily diet because I have been at a plateau and watching friends and family lose with the Phentermine pill. I have used it before I was banded so I am well aware of the side affects, I just need to know if it is on the not allowed list, will it irritate my stomach pouch?

Seriously i am not judging you. But why would you start those bad habits (drugs that didnot work)after you have been banded? Thats why you got banded to learn a new way of eating and get healthy right? I would not do anything to hurt your band. you have to treat it well and do what you are supposed to do to make good decisions toward your healthy NEW lifestyle. Good luck and keep healthy!! Don't take those!!

hI I use phent. either every day or every other day, I don't have any issues I too used it before being lap banded so I know the side effects. Using the "pill" is my personal preference I paid out of pocket for my band so it's not that I don't have faith but I also need an extra "uumph" you know. I guess its like people who don't understand why people get the lap band I mean why not use "will power". but the pill is small enough I have no issues

I was thinking that in this point in time, while I'm in banster hell, it would help keep me from starving. And it DOES work. I lost a lot with it before, I just didn't maintain my habbits when I stopped taking them. I only have about 3cc's right now and I'm hungry all the time. I'm using will power, but it sure would be nice to lose the hungry feeling until I have enough Fluid in my band.

My doctor prescribed phentermine both pre & post op for me. Post op it was to get me out of a plateau. It is no problem for the band; actually there have been no meds I have been told to avoid

I was told not to take anti inflamatories like aleeve, advil, tramodol. ect. Unless it's going to be for a short period of time and then only take it after taking a prilosec to protect the pouch. My doctor said anti inflamatories can eat/burn a hole in the stomach pouch. But thanks for the info on the phentermine!

I was banded the first time in 2008 and then rebanded in 2010 because my first band slipped. With my first band I lost all my weight and reached my goal weight, but I never had restriction I just couldn't eat anything ever, everything came up. With the second band I have great restriction I'm just always hungry and I have gained every pound back, well almost every pound I'm 30 pounds away from my starting weight. My doctor gave me phentermine to "jump start" a weight loss again. I didn't want to take diet pills because, wanted to do it all on my own, but at this point I'm just happy to be getting some kind of help from somewhere. I have only been on the pills a week and I haven't seen any weight loss as of yet, but I can tell you that I'm eating less just by looking back at my food journal.

I resently got an unfill and I feel like they took too much out, but when I didn't have the fill I was eating a lot as well. I am thinking about getting diet pills too. I have 30 pounds to go and right now I keep ticking with 200-195lbs. My advice is to take them if you can get them.

I asked my surgeon about taking Phentermine after surgery if my hunger is still out of control. He said I could take it but added that it would be a waste of money. He said the lap band will control my hunger.

Everyone I know who has used it has gained back all the weight and more when they go off it and everyone does have to go off of it...shouldnt be any harm with the band but shouldnt be needed either...behavior change!

well, 13 months out and I'm still waiting for it to control my hunger! I took phentermine for 3 months, mid October through mid January. I chose to stop taking it, I really want the bad to work like it's supposed to. The pills do work good though, I have to admit.

I have changed my eating habits, I eat what I am supposed to, for the most part. But my will power only lasted so long. It really did help those few months i took it. SOme of my fellow bandmates took it too around the same time.

Holly,

I don't know that the band alone can control hunger (imo). I think you have to tell yourself that you're not hungry - or, try eating small portions more often. I know I am still hungry a lot of the time, but I eat something small or Protein filled and I am good for another few hours - unless I am BORED, then all bets are off

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
