Hic-Burps?

Recommended Posts

After being banded 1/16, I would burp in small (then very painful) hiccups. Now they don't hurt anymore, but I am still not able to burp normally. Each one starts as a hiccup with the burp following.

My Question: Is this normal?

I am wondering if this is because my surgeon anchors the band in the diaphragm. If so, could I be injuring myself since I am still in the healing process. My mental image of straining stitches is an UGLY one.

:help:

Thanks, Brenda

Hi Brenda! Interesting, I've never heard of the band being anchored to the diaphram...

As far as the hic-urps go, you may want to call your surgeon and just check in to make sure he's not concerned. My guess is that if it's not painful to you it's not hurting anything, but better to check it out than be worried. :)

You mean the port is on your rib cage? Thats where mine is (thought it was between the boobs but its not LOL).

I get the burps alot and every once in a while I'll hicup and yes, it hurts...but it doesn't happen enuf for me to worry about. Call your doc and ask.

Good luck and welcome !!

Yep! I get the hiccups when I'm full. one or two during eating back to back..Thats how I know its time to stop!! At my support group there are quite a few people that get it too!!

My hiccups still hurt...sometime they even feel like I might throw up and I have them as others have suggested when I am too full. I rarely get hiccups compared to before my band.

Thanks for all the responses! Yeah, my surgeon anchors the band behind the stomach with a couple stitches in the diaphragm. He says that he began using this technique to avoid slippage and that since he began he has had zero slippage events in his patients.

It doesn't hurt anymore, and happens whenever I burp whether I have been eating or not (mostly not). So as far as a fullness trigger, I will probably start learning those post fill #1.

My port is about 5" up diagonally to the left of my navel. An acceptible placement even though I expected a sternum placement like a friend of mine received in 2003. At least my bra doesn't rub on it... yet.

I will post this question to my surgeons board to see if this is Kuri-specific, thanks again ladies. Glad to be here.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
