Pre-surgery jitters - final countdown

Recommended Posts

Hi! After 10 months of evaluations, test after test, dietician appointments, more dieting, and surgery/pre-op appointments, I am scheduled for surgery in 2 days! I've lost 30 lbs pre-surgery. I also had a unique opportunity: my youngest daughter had the band placed 2 1/2 weeks ago. I had the chanc to help her in recovery, and learn from her process. After watching her I ordered some pre-made WLS food items, requested anti-nausea meds before I leave the hospital, and am prepared to spend a couple days in a nightgown since pulling up her pants was beyond challenging!

So here I am, 2 days away. I am excited and VERY nervous. I am worried about the post-op nausea/vomiting from anesthesia, and nausea in general (when I am nausea my body chooses to vomit, and my surgeon said avoiding vomiting.) I also watched her struggle in trying to get in enough Protein the first couple days.

I'd love any tips from the experts for any of these issues.

ONE LAST QUESTION: how do you put in those weight loss tickers?

Thanks!

Donna

I was lucky and actually didn't have any nausea. Maybe you'll be lucky too! I struggled for the first week with getting my Protein in as well. The shakes were too think for me to drink but that's because I had so much swelling I couldn't swallow anything... :-/ my doctor told me not to stress over it and just get in as much as I could. Now that I'm on real food I never drink them. I get plenty of Protein from my food.

My gas pains were pretty intense... The best thing that worked for me besides walking was a heating pad. It was my saving grace. So if you don't have one of those, I'd invest in one. They're around 15 bucks at Walmart. Popsicles really helped get my Fluid intake up as well. Also, take a pillow with you to the hospital for the ride home. It helps to have something to press up against your tummy. Those bumps are killer.

Good luck! You'll do great!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
