Wanting to 'lick' foods while in liquid diet?

Recommended Posts

Okay i know how crazy and gross this sounds, but I've been craving hot cheetos and I'm seriously thinking about buying some just to lick them to get the taste of them! WOW, okay that does sound crazy...Has anybody else just licked something to taste it knowing they can't actually eat anything yet?

OMG I did that! When I went for my 4 week follow-up, the nurse asked if I had cheated. I said yes I had. She braced herself for what she might have to deal with and said "OK what did you do?" I said "I licked a potato chip. I just wanted some salt so I licked the chip and gave it to the dog!" I thought she was gonna fall over laughing.

OMG.... I thought I was the only one! I fantasized about licking pizza or something. It was the craziest thing and my friends would laugh at me because of it. Not being able to eat will give you some crazy thoughts, but trust me you are not alone! Funny thing I had some pizza in front of me the other day. My plan was to take the cheese of and suck on it (don't judge me) then I was gonna lick all the sauce off. I fantasized about it. Funny thing is when I went to tear a tiny peice of the cheese off, I lost my appetite. I just had no desire for the pizza at all and I am just 3 1/2 weeks post op. This band will make you think ( and do) some crazy things.

I knew there was someone out there in the world that licked the chili off Takis. I'm glad to see I'm not alone, lol. Such a good way to snack. My question is,,.. I'm on a 4 week liquid diet before my gastric sleeve surgery and I have not cheated but last night the craving was too strong I licked half a bag of Takis, is that going to interfere with my surgery??? Please someone respond because I feel so guilty and worried like I broke sobriety or something!!! Thanks in advance!

Ok, just a few of my thoughts. Take them for what they are and are not exact facts. First, when or if you speak to your nutritionist make sure to mention that this happened (Just be honest with yourself and your team). Second, and this is where my thoughts come in but while I was on the pre-op liquid diet I didn't have any craving but my sodium level dropped significantly. I have to wonder if that is why you had that craving and that your body may be asking for a bit more salt. If you haven't had many electrolytes or have a "keto headache" then upping your salt quantity may be needed here. Now just take it as my 2 cents, but that is a potential cause of the craving or at least I would think it would be. After I consumed a significant amount of salt my Keto headache went away. I did this by taking a broth based progresso Soup and strained all of the solids out. This left me with a high sodium broth that tasted just like soup but with only a small number of calories. Good luck on your preop diet and you should be fine, but your bariatric team/nutritionist should be able to verify. I have read a few other stories of people eating much worse than you on the liquid diet here and if you need some validation on this, you can search for others mess ups. If we are honest with ourselves we will be able to achieve great results and be the best that we can be.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
