Liquid Diet Before Lap Band Surgery?

Recommended Posts

3 pints skimmed milk 2 no/lowfat yoghurts per day for 9 days. I changed it slightly 2 pints n 4 yoghurts. Done to reduce fatty liver so that surgery went easier for surgeon & therefore me!

My preop diet started after my first visit, so I was on it for 10 months prior. Lost almost 45 pounds, so that wasn't so bad.

My lap band is scheduled for 10/12 and I have to go on a full liquid diet two weeks before. My dr is affiliated with mass general hosp/north shore. I think a two week liquid diet is pretty standard. Good luck!

My doc requires the 2 wk liquid diet, and it it super hard! I am just finishing my first week of it and have had a few lapses (some tuna and a few crackers). My lb surgery is scheduled for the 28th. I will check back here to let you know if I have more info. Jeans are fitting better though!

My three week pre-op diet consisted of:

Breakfast: Muscle Milk Light Protein shake

Lunch: Muscle Milk Light Protein Shake

Snack: 1/2 cup Chobani Plain Greek Yogurt (I was also allowed sugar free pudding and sugar free Jello. I disliked the taste of both so I stuck with yogurt.)

Dinner: 1 cup of broth based Soup.

Beverage: 64 ounces of lemon flavored ice Water

The first week was hard but my body adjusted so I was a happy camper. I lost 23 pounds on the diet.

Im not ordered a liquid diet, except liquids the day before surgery..:but i akso havent had my ultrasound yet so I wonder if that may have something to do wit it, maybe they cant detect the fatty liver then?? I'm at my sleep study right now :-/

I had two week full liquid pre op including 3 carnation sf breakfasts, sf Jello, sf Popsicles , broth, herbal tea. It was tough, but it kind of got me in a different mind set, in preparation for surgery. Good luck to you !

My Dr. did not require me to be on a all liquid diet. What he did insist on was I loose 20 lbs prior to surgery to shrink the liver, making surgery easier and reducing the risk of damaging the liver.

Having said that, the best sure fire way to loose 20 lbs was to go on a liquid shake diet, like opti-fast. And that is what I did. But I did have regular food now and then keeping a eye on the scale.

My surgery was a Monday morning. I had to have a "Final Weigh-in" the Friday before to insure we were all ready. If he felt I did not loose the adequate weight, then he would have postponed surgery that day.

I passed, all was set, THEN I went out for my "FINAL MEAL" I pigged out at one of my favorite eateries because I knew I will never be able to do that ever again.

That was a Friday eve., and I went on a strict diet(fast) Saturday and Sunday for my Monday surgery.

Knowing that I could risk not having the surgery, after all the hoops I had jumped through, was motivation enough to loose any weight he asked.

I am allowed 3 Protein Shakes, 1/2 cup of sugar free fat free Jello, 1/2 cup of sugar free fat free pudding, 2 cups low sodium fat free Soup (no meat must be veggie or cream style) 1 packet plain oatmeal no sugar and a cup of iceburg lettuce with two tsp of fat free dressing. It's sorta getting old.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
