Got my first fill today

Recommended Posts

I really was not expecting it. I was hoping to move out of the mushy stage this weekend and start eating regular food. Well, now I am on liquids again. The doctor is going on vacation in a couple of weeks and did not want me to have my first fill just just before he left in case there were any issues. It did not hurt at all. He gave me 3 ccs. I am not sure if I notice a difference at all, but maybe I will when I start eating regular food.

I also got my first fill today. Wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. The NP numbed up the area with lidocaine, then in went the needle and it was done before I knew it. My surgeon put 4ml of saline in during surgery- which I didn't know and it suprised me at how much. And she put 1ml in today. She was going to put 2ml in, but because of the holiday weekend, she only put 1ml to prevent any trips to the ER over the weekend. I already feel a difference, I could only take 4 bites of my dinner and I was over full! Amazing how just a small amount makes a huge difference. They told me I could eat normal tonight, but I wonder if it would have been better to stick to liquids. I think I'll do that with future fills.B)

My doctor says 2 days liquids, 2 days mushies, and 2 days soft foods following a fill.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
