*****NEW***** Lap-Band by INAMED

Recommended Posts

Yep, lots of folks have them. Men seem to have the VG band more often than the others...larger anatomies and all...do you? But plenty of folks, men AND women, here have the larger capacity band. It takes more fills, usually, to get the right restriction and first fills are usually much bigger than with the smaller 4cc capacity bands. Anyhoo...Inamed says it's new, but really it's just the newest product, I guess. So far, it seems to be a very good band!

I don't mean to sound like a know it all or snot, but this is not a new band. This is the Vanguard band which some of us here have installed around our gullets.

It is used for patients who have larger stomachs, and some doctors believe that they have lower erosion rates. (Not saying I agree with this, but it is one theory.)

I hope that cleared up the confusion for you. They've been around for a while now.

I have the 4cc and hubby has the VG, there is about 100lbs difference between us, not sure if that had anything to do with Dr. Powell using the bigger one on him.. I trust the good ole doctor's reasoning.

Yes, the VG (Vanguard) band is a 10cc band.

It's gaining in popularity but a lot of surgeons only recommend them for patients with larger frames, larger BMI, or 'thicker' anatomies.

I asked about them as soon as they came out (gee, I hate to miss a band trend) but I didn't qualify based on my size or BMI, from all I inquired with.

But it's great to have another option and anything that can increase the overall success of finding the right LapBand for each patient, is good.

Happy Band Journeys to all,

New Sho

Guest myband

I had a B.M.I 37.

231 Ibs and the surgeon placed the V.G on me. I'm considered a light weight.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
