What should be buy for post op diet

Recommended Posts

Have been reading alot on the first week post op and have found alot of great suggestions for things like baby tylenol, mylanta chewable gas meds, and such. I am still preop scheduled for sept 6th. I am wondering if I can get suggestions here on the stuff that has helped you out post op. My mother and bestfriend are going to be taking care of me for the first 2 days or so so i would like to get a list of stuff together for them so they know what will help me through this process. any and all suggestions are welcome even if they are standard from your dr or just common sense. Thanks so much. Oh also i would like to know how to get a ticker to work. I have created one but cant seem to figure it out

  • Liquid Emetrol for nausea
  • S/F lemonade or lemon hard candy. You will have a terrible taste in your mouth from the liquid diet. All the tooth brushing and mouth wash in the world won't help. Anything lemon flavored will cut through it.
  • Chicken or beef broth
  • jello
  • popsicles
  • protein powder
  • milk
  • lump free yogurt

For your ticker:

  • Copy the bbcode
  • go to edit my profile/change signature
  • paste the code into the box

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
