Newly banded on 8/19/2011

Recommended Posts

Was wondering if anybody else had alot of gas present. This is very uncomfortable to me and I think it is bothering me more than the surgery/inscisions.

I had my surgey on the 17th, and the gas and swelling is pretty bad, I also had a hernia repair.. My back feels like I'm having muscle spasms. So far this has not been real pleasant for me. I see the doc on Thursday for my one week check up.

Hope you start feeling human soon!

try the Mylanta chewables for the gas. it really helps. don't drink through a straw, makes the gas worse.

I was banded on 08/12 - And I had a hernia repair also. The gas pain was intense for the first 2 weeks. Really intense - gasx didnt help and I had the unfortunate side effect that I could not burp. However 2 weeks have past and its all MUCH better , I feel human again.

Walking a LOT helps , and also take a nice hot bath for a long while that helps too.

Don't Worry! it will go away and you will feel better again!

Hot bath? Pretty sure you shouldnt submerge any incisions under three weeks of surgery. At least thats what they told me. Cant go in our pool for three weeks! :(

I had my band put in on Aug. 15th and the gas got much better after first week. I am not feeling much gas pressure anymore and if I do its not as bad as it was the first week. It gets better! :)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
