I just had my surgery yesterday. The gas is slightly painful. I was wondering how many of you took chewable Gas X at this point? Since I'm only on liquids I was concerned if it's ok. Any advice from my now fellow bandits?

I didn't get any till day 3 post op and took them till day 5 (but if I had them day 2 I would have taken them). I'm finally feeling better today, day 6. But I think any walking you can do helps SO much!! Even marching on the spot if you can't get outside.

I used the one that dissolves on the tongue. I started right away because that gas was really, really, bad. It woke me during the night. I would get up walk around the house for 5 or 10 min. and go back to bed. 3 nights like that, no other pain or I wouldn't have made it.

I was banded 8/15, and i took gasx right away, you chew the heck out of them and they basically disappear. I know what you are going through. OMG.. thought the gas was the worst. And walk walk walk..as much as you can. by 3rd.day i was so good, i went to the store yesterday and had people over until midnight last night. each day will get better. I am still popping the gasx couple times a day. Good Luck!! you have a couple of days of bad before it gets good again!!

I started with the chewables on day one. AFter 4 days I learned about the "tabs" that dissolve on the tongue. They seem to work much faster. I am 7 days post surgery and still passing gas, and feeling very bloated most days. It seems to be getting better with each day that passes.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
