When do you see the surgeon?

Recommended Posts

I'm in month 4 of the required 6 month nutrition monitoring before surgery. At this point, I still have not met a surgeon to talk about which surgery I'm interested in and what their thoughts were as far as what they recommend. Is this typical? Potentially, I could be having my surgery in 3 months and apparently will only meet with a surgeon after another successful weigh-in next month. Just curious if this is the typical set up for surgery. Just seems like it would be better to get these conversations covered earlier in the process...

I met my surgeon on my first visit for a consultation. And saw him every appointment there after. I'd feel like you... Not very impressed or happy if I never saw him...

I also met my surgeon on the first visit. Reading these forums though it seems like each person's dr. has a different way of doing things.

I just went for my first consultation and the surgeon did a presentation. I am with you and would have felt disappointed. I would probably be looking for another surgeon.

He came to the orientation, first office appt and I've seen him at every visit. U shoulve met with him for consult to decide what band u want. I would call office and ask what's up

If you've already decided you definitely want lapband, your surgeon might feel that his or her time is better spent talking to patients who either still haven't made a decision or who are closer to actually having the surgery--and that two months out from your surgery is soon enough to talk to the surgeon; in the meantime, his staff can probably answer most of your questions.

I wouldn't worry about it if I were you--just start a list of questions specifically for the surgeon!

I don't want to sound negative, but if you don't see him much before surgery you can probably guarantee you won't see much of him after. And, to me, aftercare is the most important. Just something to think about...

Hello I am up for my 5th dr. visit and I've seen my surgeon on my First and 3rd visit and again on my 6th visit. I do think it is odd u haven't seen yours yet I would aleast call the office and ask if this is the way it should be. Wish you the best :)

I didn't see my surgeon until the surgery schedule date. I only seen the weight loss center physician. I don't think it is odd. Now, I had my surgery and my follow ups are with the surgeon. I only see the weight loss physician every 6 months which I guess is for routine follow up and labwork.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
