Hi guys I haven't posted on here yet but I thought I would give you all something too laugh at... Sooo okay I was banded on June 28th of this year and had my first fill yesterday. I do not do well with needles at all. Now I know what you are saying "why have lapband if you don't like needles". Well I had the lapband for a multitude of reasons but, the biggest is that I am the mother of 2 wonderful boys... The oldest being severely disabled... I needed too get healthy too take care of him..

Okay so Anyway I walked into the office yesterday for my fill and was really not nervious. I had my hubby with me for support. The dr. came in told me too lay back and relax. YEAH RIGHT!

He sticks the needles in which really was not bad. But, he digs and digs and digs some more. By now I am sweating bullets. So he takes the needle out and asks for a different one. Finally he gets it in and tells me too sit up and take a drink. So I do as I am told and pass out!! Right there.. I was so embarrassed... But its okay cause today I have only been able too get a few bites down at a time and have been pretty comfortable for 2 to 3 hours at a time... I am happy!! Have a great week all...

Oh NO! So sorry you passed out! I bet that took them a bit by surprise. Do you know how much ssaline they gave you? I had my first fill yesterday. I'm ok with needles, but I don't like to be tickled! Before my surgery I made my doctor promise he would put my port right above my belly button because that is where I am least ticklish.

LOL, we are completely use to people passing out, so don't worry about that! It doesn't matter how big or small the needle is, just the idea of it some people can't stand. But the fact that they had to dig around a little. ouch! I'm sure I'd be sweating too! I felt the same you did, fill wasn't too bad at all.

Cracking up at karma. I can just picture you going into the dr's office and saying "PLEASE put this port above my belly button cause I can't stand to be tickled.......lmao~!!!!

Here's a turn around. I went for a unfil yesterday.

I spent almost 1 hr. on the table while they kept sticking me, and twisting, and trying to find the PORT.

The first Tech. is sweating so bad, that she takes off her white coat, and starts again, then in some time she says she needs a break... O.K.,

JUST COME BACK WHEN YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING I'M THINKING. She comes back, and says I will try again. now in the past,,,, never had a problem with her.

Also nothing for pain. Never needed it before, but might have helped yesterday... But ALLERGIC to it. So this is all done poke after poke. She finally gives up, sweating something terrible.

She says wait for the R.N to come in(That would be a Hour wait.) WE JUST DROVE 2 HRS. TO GET THERE, SO I CAN'T LEAVE, AND TO TIGHT...

Finally in comes the Nurse. She is having a hard time ! So now I am thinking what's wrong?

I told her to get a big needle that's what the Dr. uses, She got stuck in scar tissue.. Wouldn't go down, or come out ????

So I take a look, and I almost fainted knowing that when she pushed or pulled, I could feel that Port move with it....

Finally she pushed harder, and broke through, and got it. she took some out, then with 2 hands pulled on the syrange to get it out.

I kid you not ! It sounded like a PLUNGER !

The job was done, but am I sore ! I have not even taken off the Band Aids yet. I will a little later.

Poor Husband almost got sick... Poor Baby... But that's the Flip side of the coin.

I was thinking about getting a tiny heart tattoo at the very site where they accessed the site yesterday so they would always know where to go. I can still see the pinprick from where they put in the lidocaine so maybe if I run to the tattoo place today or tomorrow (or at least mark it with a pen until I can get there) then I can have my little "x marks the spot" (I was actually thinking of a tiny peace sign)

Actually, I'm a nurse and work in OB. We do epidurals/spinals all the time with people who have "tramp stamps". I'll have to interrogate my surgeon when I go in for my weigh in this week. He would expect me to do something like that.

OKAY!!! LOL I don't feel so bad now I was thinking 10 or 15 min was bad I would have been throwing up after all of that. I am glad they finally got some Fluid out so you can be comfortable. They put in 2cc of saline and I think its pretty good... I have been pretty happy the last week. I have lost about 4 pounds and I am really not that hungry between meals. I am still a little sore from the poking around and have a nice little bruise. But, as I told my nurse it wasn't as bad as I thought even after passing out. Hopefully when I go back on the 26th of Sept I only have too be poked 1 time and don't pass out on them...lol

My experience has been that they don't go through tattoos that less than 2 yrs old related to risk of infection and the dye/ink.

Hey we are Band-Day sisters!! I got my band (installed - he,he) on June 28th as well. I just had my first fill on the 17th. He origionally told me that I had an empty band and at my appt told me that he was adding 3 so that would put me at 6. I was like - I thought it was empty. He said it was, but that what was in he tubing was at 3. I am very happy so far. I haven't been hungry at all! I was a little nervous but he found the port easily. It just felt like a sharp pinch and that was it. I hope it is always that easy! I am very happy with my decision to do this. So far I have lost 44lbs. I look and feel like a new person. I love my new chicken legs and I now only have one chin! 56 more lbs to go, then I will see if I need a Tummy Tuck. If things don't start tightening up pretty soon I know for sure I will have to do it. Anyone have any tricks to help tighten saggy skin? Also I have noticed lots of people put the weight ticker on their posts. I have checked the site out but can't figure out how to add it to my posts. Tips please!!v Happy Banding!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
