Does anyones measurments not add up to thier size?

Recommended Posts

My measurements say I am suppose to be an 18/20. But I am fitting into 16 and some 14's. 18's are way to big and fall off me. But according to the measuements of a 14, the shouldnt fit me.

Anyone else experiencing this? I was going to order some stuff online, but dont know if I should.

I have 10s, 12s and 14s that fit. Every company has a different idea about sizes. Just have to try stuff on!

Completely agree with Cindy C! Some places that I shop I am a 14, and others not even the 18's fit; it just depends on the brand but of course I love the places that say I'm a 14 ;)

I agree I used to be a big online shopper not anymore because depending on who makes it I can go from a 16 to a 20

Doing the measurements thing doesn't work for me. If I measure my "waist" , generally it tells me I need a much bigger size than if I measure my hips- I'm still an apple , albeit a much smaller apple. So I go by what the hip size tells me and normally the stuff fits. The only thing I have a real problem buying is jeans - it is so hard to find ones that fit decently. If they fit my waist they are way too baggy on the legs and butt and if they fit the legs and butt I struggle to do up the waist. So my size is somewhere between an Aus 6 -8 (US 2 - 4).Somehow that doesn't seem like too bad a problem to have, I think I can live with it!

I have the same problem. When I was measured for my wedding dress they measured me at an 18, I didn't lose any weight between then and when it came in and it had to be taken in almost 2 sizes (although after going through the same thing with all my bridesmaids I'm convinced bridal shops intentionally measure you a size bigger...but I digress). Every store is different, and even then their measurements are often inaccurate for certain body types. I've also come to the conclusion that my extra skin is a huge factor. I have so much skin that gets compressed when I wear clothing, that makes my measurements larger when I'm not wearing clothing. I think maybe that's one of the reasons measurements aren't a good indicator of size. That, and different body types will wear clothing differently so the measurements should be just a guide. Me, I wear anything from a 14-18 (or a large-xxl). Crazy!

I generally wear a size bigger than my measurements would indicate - I cant bear jeans that give me a muffin top, or that are tight after they've been washed! Nor can I stand tops that become too small after washing so although my measurements would indicate I'm size 10 (US 6), I rarely buy a size 6 in anything, its always an 8 for a bit of extra room. Size 6 would fit like a glove, which generally I'm uncomfortable with.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
