My PBing-not from not chewing enough but from swallowing too soon

Recommended Posts

I've finally figured out why I've had some PBing even though I chew everything very well. There are no problems if I allow each swallow of food to get way down before swallowing again. Before, I'd chew a lot but swallow a follow up bite too closely behind the previous one. That pile up down there caused stuckages. Hope this helps somebody else who may be having the same issue. Pause a while between swallows no matter how well you chew.

Thanks for the advice! I start mushies tomorrow and do not want to PB or get stuck on anything. :)

I agree. Too many bites that are too fast can be a problem. It also helps to set your fork/spoon down between bites until you have yourself trained. This way another bite will not get loaded on the fork too soon.

Thanks for the suggestion I will try it. Since my fourth fill I have barely been able to eat anything and been getting stuck too easily. I am chewing well, but maybe I do need to take more time between bites.

I will definitely store this advice in my memory for when I'm banded. Thank you for sharing. I LOVE this site! So helpful.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
