What to look for in Protein Shakes

Recommended Posts

I need suggestions on some good Protein Shakes. My surgeon carries some Protein shakes in his office that are good but expensive. I am open to some suggestions to Protein Shakes that are flavorful. Thanks

As a suggestion: I think the Atkins Protein Shakes are the best in nutritional intake that I have found. It gives you a good size of Protein and low in carbs. I agree, my surgeon office has protein shakes but they are expensive. Atkins are expensive than the others but it is worth it.

i like the Myoplex brand shakes. I drank Myoplex Original during my preop diet, but now I drink those and the lite shakes. I really like the chocolate flavors they offer. You might give them a try. My doctor suggested I drink this brand and they are as affordable as any of the other I have seen.

Hi Diva01: I'm on the 10th day of my pre-op diet and have been taking EAS whey Protein (vanilla flavor). I take this in powder form mixed with fat free milk and it tastes very good. I purchased it a BJ's for 32.99 and it offers 23grams of Proteins, 3 grams of carbs and 130 calories---keeps me full all the time! I totally recommend this product.

Look for whey isolate which is easier for your body to break down. It is more expensive but worth it. Personally I look for about 25 g Protein, for less than 120 cal, less 3 g of fat or carbs.

I use Isopure low carb Protein Shake powder in chocolate, but they have many flavors. In the beginning it was hard, but you get used to it really quickly. You can find it at GNC and the last two time I purchased it, it only cost 45.00 for a huge container and if you don't like it after you open it up and try it, you have 90 days to return for a full refund.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
