Wanna know more about my lap band surgeon...

Recommended Posts

Hello all... I am a new comer. I will be attending a seminar with Dr. Shayani in Bolingbrook on Aug 18, 2011. I was just wondering if there are any lap-banders that already used Dr. Shayani? What was your experience? How are the nurses, hospital, and the location? How long was the process from day 1 up until the actual surgery day? What are Dr. Shayani's requirements? Do you need a referral? Does he require a 6month pre-diet? Any advice and positive feedback or just general info on the doctor's character and personality will be greatly appreciated. By the way, I'm 33yrs old, my BMI is 51, and my insurance covers most of the surgery... Yay!!! Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

I love Dr. Shayani. He is willing to answer any and all questions you have. You can email him and he responds. He has a kind and caring personality. He works out of several hospitals, so my experience will be different from yours. The insurance I had dictated a 6month diet with my primary care physician. The diet after your week post op is Protein, he wants you to eat meat, Beans, cheese, Protein Bars, and nuts only. I have had good success with it. I am down 55 lbs since my surgery may 2nd. Everyone is different, so do not expect the same. I also incorporated circuit training 2 nights and walking 4 nights (3-4 Miles).

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
