Do we need restriction?

Recommended Posts

I don't know what restriction is but I have 6.5cc in my 10cc band and today I got full off an 8oz cup of food. So does this mean I good for a while???? (I feel like I'm about 2 spoon full's away from Thanksgiving dinner) lol.

Restriction varies from person to person, IMO.

Comparing number of cc's or levels of restriction in ones band to another is a very dangerous road to go down, IMO.

There are people here who have life threatening disorders due to being morbidly obese.

The band was made to be adjusted, and is done so to fit the individual by the Surgeon. Everyone is different.

I would not want to see people feel like a failure because they have had many fills, comparing themselves to someone who has never had a fill.

It would be like comparing "Chemo" doses between cancer patients.

You got to do what works for you, under your Dr.'s advice.

Amanda, I'd say if you're feeling full for several hours on that amount of food, then you're right on target. The purpose of the band is not restriction (as in, preventing you from eating) it's about dimming your appetite so you feel satisfied with less food per meal. I've posted this link many times, but Dr. Terry Simpson's page about the purpose of the lap band is appropriate. You should read this page: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html

Dave thanks for the article great resource..I now know that feeling stuffed is a no no... I should have stopped before that may a 1/2 cup or 3/4 cup. Thanks and please keep passing this along. I know I will

Girl you have restriction if 8ozs feels almost like Thanksgiving!

Dave is correct - you should stop before you get stuffed.

Everyone else is correct too-restriction varies from person to person.

Good luck!!

i was confused about what restriction was for a long time. i kept waiting to want to throw up after eating like 3 bites of food, and well that never happened. i have learned that first and foremost i MUST SLOW DOWN my eating. i have figured out that i am full way before i realize it cuz i eat too quickly. I am always rushing. ugh! also restriction is being able to go about 4 hours without being hungry and i do have that. so my challenge is to eat slower so i will realize that i am satisfied and not stuffed! i dont know about you, but stuffed post band is way worse than stuffed pre-band.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
