Recommended Posts

I am new here also, and am scheduled for LBS on August 10 th. I am into my 3 rd day of liquids and I am doing fine with it so far. I am looking forward to my surgery, but I am concerned about those who have posted about being several months post surgery and only loosing 5 lbs or even 40 lbs. I weigh 233 and want to loose all my weight . what determines how you loose ? Is it just a gamble?

Well I'm also new 8 days post-op yayy! To help with that question even though I'm not at that point yet but I have lost 8 lbs in 1 week. I just want to tell you that with the lap band everyone is different all I know is that when u get it follow the rules and it will work for you. And key make sure you drink a lot of Water nit flushes you out and keeps the weight coming off. Also one more thing I stay on YouTube listenig to alot of different stories which alot of them are very helpful and everybody has there own journey, some are good and some are not but as you read you will kinda figure out why some are not, the ball is in your hand. That's why be positive stay focused and the work you put in will pay off trust me..bye bye I hope I helped out.....

I haven't been banded yet but I know people who have. I get banded next Tuesday. The key to the lap band is eating right and working out. If you do not do as you are supposed to, the weight will NOT fall off. You have to eat right and exercise. I hop all this helps and maybe we can go through this together!!!

In my opinion mind you...the Lap band is a tool and ONLY a tool. It means I am responsible for my loss...my choices to walk when I want to or not, what I eat or don't.

Even with out tiny new tummies we can keep our metabolism running better by being aware of what and when we take in. For me, if I take in calories 3-5 times a day before 6 I always tend to lose on a consistent basis.

Everyone is different and all of us have to own our own bodies and lifestyle changes...you wont fail if you keep success in your minds eye! :)

Best of luck!

Hi there! I was baded 7/6/11. And you will hear it a million and one times, but I will just say it here anyway... the band is your little friend that wants to help you lose weight, but he can't do it without your effort! Even though I'm only a month out of surgery, I am learning that more than ever now. Sure, I can still eat a milk shake, m&ms, chocolate, cheesecake, whatever I want (not that I have!). Mentally I am still hungry and want the bad foods, but I have to make the right choices. I haven't been up on my walking and I think that's why my weightloss hasn't been as much as I'd like it to be. For example, a family friend got surgery 1 year ago. Her total weightloss is 25lbs. When I heard that I was like what?! You had surgery just to lose 25lbs?! And my mom was banded in February of this past year and she's lost 55lbs so far. The difference is that my friend eats Bagels, 3-4 cups of food (apparently she hasn't found her 'sweet spot' with fills) and isn't doing what she should.

Don't get me wrong, I ABSOLUTELY made the right choice getting the band and don't regret it in the least bit. So far I'm down 26.2lbs. Sure, I'd like it to be more but then I remember I haven't lost over 8lbs on my own since I was 14.

Best of luck with your surgery! I'll be sending prayers your way. You can do this and be successful!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
