First Fill, Not the Result I had hoped for

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill yesturday. I have a 10 ml band and my doctor put in 2.5 ml's. I was really hoping for a better result but still feel that everything goes right down, and my goal for fullness and lack of hunger is not what I had hoped for. My next appointment is not for another 6 weeks but I am going to call to see if he would be willing to see me again sooner. dry.gif. I know it's a "process" but I was really hopeful about continuing my journey at this point with a successful first fill.

Sometimes it takes a few days before you notice the results. So give it a few more days.

It's true that it can take a few days or even a couple of weeks to feel the result...with that being said, I totally feel your frustration! I had high expectations for my first fill and again for my 2nd fill. My 2nd fill was a little better. I know that we want the band to start doing it's part- it's aggravating having to wait so long to reach that sweet spot!

My doc also give fills 6 weeks apart-seriously-6 weeks??!! I booked my 2nd fill 4 weeks and I have a fill coming up next week at 3 weeks. I am not sure if they will do it with only 3 weeks passing by-but I am sure going to try and plead my case!

Good luck to you!

i was disappointed with my first and second fill. nothing changed. finally with my third fill the ball is rolling. albeit slow, it's moving. It takes some people a couple of fills to get to the "sweet spot". i was hoping i wouldnt be one of them, but oh well! 3rd filling and counting! LOL

It can take up to 6 weeks to feel a fill. There's a specific reason they hold off.

Delayed fills are completely normal. They happen for several reasons:

  • when the Fluid is put in it pushes Fluid from the tubing into the band, and it takes a bit of time for that to distribute equally around the band
  • when fluid is put it it applies pressure to the stomach - even if it's just a tiny fill - and that causes a slight inflammatory reaction that builds as the body reacts
  • placebo effect - you expect to feel a fill, you don't feel it immediately, you subconsciously eat a little less to see if it helps, it doesn't so you go back to eating normal but oops the fill really did take so you feel tighter a week or more later

The last sounds ridiculous but it happens. Your body will react to how you feel. Just know that each fill does impact you - even if only a tiny bit - and when you're talking about a hole the size of a dime, that tiny bit can be a lot.

My doc allows fills every 4 weeks. It seems that his office has appointments 5 weeks out though. UGH I have a 10cc band and was filled with 4cc the first fill and 0.75cc on the 4th. After the first fill I lost 10lbs but only during the week of liquids. Once I started on solids I maintained. I have lost 3lbs since Thursdays on liquids again. It is so hard to follow his recommendation of 1 week of liquids following fills but I have to admit when I see the scale go down it's worth it. Do you use myfitnesspal to document your calorie intake and exercise? This helps keep me honest with what I'm putting into my mouth. When I don't record what I'm eating I tend to eat really unhealthy. Also, exercise speeds things up. I understand your disappointment with the pace of things. You want to get the ball rolling. I'd give it 2 weeks and then call and see if you can't get in any earlier.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
