I have never had any type of surgery, nor have had to be 'put under' for any reason. I even got all four wisdom teeth pulled at the same time with only a few shots of novacaine... and had two babies naturally with no pain meds at all.

I have no fear of the actual lapbad placement surgery. I have no fear of the pain in healing. My fear is of anesthesia! I know there is risk with any surgery, but it is 2011 for goodness sake... why I have a phobia of anesthesia I do not know...?? I suppose this is an irrational fear, but still a fear that I have about 4 months to get over...

I am not sure what comments I am expecting from my new found LBT friends, but did anyone have this fear? You came out okay, right?!

I was so scared of the anesthesia myself. My biggest fear was waking up in the middle of the surgery. Seems I would have a better chance of winning the lottery then that happening. They are standing there monitoring you the whole time... I am sure you will be fine... I do understand your fear.. I have been there and done that!!! And I came out fine.. GOODLUCK!

I had never had any surgery or anything either. I was nervous about that too. But it was quick and easy. It's like I never even went to sleep. The anesthesia Dr. came into preop and gave me meds through my IV to relax me. I don't even remember going to the OR. I just remember waking up in the recovery area. It wasn't bad at all.

I too had the same fears. I had never been in the hospital for anything or even had an IV. I remember the anesthesiologist telling me I would feel some pressure in my hand and the next thing I knew I woke up in recovery. No pain either which was surprising. really the only major pain I had was shoulder pain from the gas for a few days. Best decision I ever made. Im down almost 70lbs in just under a year and still losing. Havent put a lb back on and I am super lazy with exercising so I mostly walk for about 30-40 minutes 5-6 days a week. Your going to be fine. Good Luck.

OMG, i was exactly the same, but all I remeber is lookiing up at the celling in surgery, then seeing a clock - I was in recovery. there was no sense of time passing, or going to sleep.< /p>

Make sure you discuss your fears with the anesthesiologist dr's they can give you something to help you relax before they take you for surgery so your not to anxious.

Good Luck

It is so safe for the average person. Your risk of anything happening is miniscule, less than 1%. I even had a mega huge six hour operation last November and the anaesthetist told me he's NEVER lost a patient in his entire career and he was 58.

I was the EXACT same way! I have never been hospitalized for anything! So anesthesia was my fear too. Well let me tell u, they are some sneaky rascals! (In a good way) He pulled up 2 syringes before they wheeled me to the o.r. Well he was in the back of the stretcher and he looped my iv behind me. He gave me something because I was trying to follow the ceiling to the o.r.- pointless! lol i remember several people standing around in the o.r. and I felt them strapping my feet together and my arms down. he put a mask on my face and told me to take some deep breaths, i told him the mask was not tight on my nose. He said its ok just take some breaths, well i took @ breaths and Out like a light! LOL I woke up in PACU! Wasnt even sure i had the surger , until I asked the PACU RN and she said everything went fine. I ws very pleased with the whole experience. You will be fine.

I had surgery 15 years ago and it took a while for the anesthesia to wear off and I felt like crap.

They have made lots of advancements since then and it was like nothing waking up. You will be just fine!

I understand the fear in it. We all have it, but I never slept soooo good. Then it's over in a flash, and they wake you up in the Recovery Room.

There is no problem at all !

Now of course the Medical Profession will always tell you, that their is a risk with surgery. Thats True !

But there is a risk whenever you go out in a car, or cross the street too..

They have it down to a science.

I had the same fear of being put to sleep. I hate it and have had once before! But my LapBand Surgery only lasted 45 minutes and I prayed before they put me to sleep (and the night before) and the next thing I knew I was awake! I was home by 2pm the same day of surgery! God will be with you!:D

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
