The End of Summer Challenge

Recommended Posts

Joan weighing in at 187.4, a loss of 2.4. That's the good news.

The bad news is I had an appointment for my monthly check up and my band has slipped. I am SO bummed. The plan is for me to drink liquids only for the next 3 weeks, as much as I can tolerate, and then they'll reassess the bands position. I am thinking positive thoughts and prayers that it slips back down where it belongs without requiring surgery.

Congratulations to all the "losers" this week! Keep your eye on the prize!

JulieG (nu2ywg) checking in at 214.6, that's down two and a half pounds! I'm pretty pleased with that considering we did a day trip to the States for shopping on Saturday (and ate in 'merican restaurants) and then ate at Perkins last night.

I'm still 5lb from my goal. Leaving Wednesday for some camping which will be a challenge. I'll be on my own with 3 kids for most of it while hubby works and less access to healthy food, no scale, no gym etc. We'll see what happens. If only I had a bike trailer for my youngest I could bike around with the older kids...any ideas for camping fitness with kids are welcome.

Is your little one small enough for a stroller? You could trot along behind the bike riding kids pushing the stroller. We went all terrain with our son in a stroller after he out grew the back pack. A bike seat for the back of your bike is MUCH cheaper than a trailer. Our son rode in one from about 7 months on up.

Have fun, Joan

Well folks happy to say I have maintained.....still kinda unwinding from the week at UCLA, don't have much energy for my morning walks either. Next week we have more appointments, and another trip to UCLA........ I will be happy to maintain, seeing I do tend to stress eat. Hmmmmmm gooood thoughts, goooood thoughts ;)

Kelly sorry to hear about your mom. Don't forget to take care of yourself!

Joan praying the band slippage corrects itself.

I am 215 today, down 2.25. Had a fill on Thursday.

I also had a NSV today that means a lot to me. Acouple of years ago family and I were swimming in a lake. Everyone swam to a floating dock and got out. I couldn't pull myself up the ladder. I had to swim to the shore. I was so humiliated. A little biy ago I climbed out of the pool at the YMCA using the ladder! Yay me!:D

Dietary Goal for August~ Don't cheat

Personal Goal for August~ don't have one

Total Weight Loss Since Banding~ 8 lbs

It's beed a tough week. I was retaining Water most of last week so I only lost 0.2 lbs. And this week is going to be tough too because I will be starting regular food and my kids birthday party is this weekend. (My son will be 6 tomorrow and my daughter 3 next month! ) I am going to try not to over do it though. Planning on one small slice of cake and one small slice of pizza at the party. I am doing well so far with not drinking while eating and at first that was a HUGE challenge for me so I am proud of that. :P

I forgot to post on Monday. Today I had my fisrt fill and weighed in at 213. Happy I lost 2 pounds considering the junk I ate at my kids B-day party over the weekend. Can't wait to go back in 2 wks and hopefully get another fill. :D

We will keep our fingers crossed. Did you have any indication that your band had slipped?

I wasn't aware my band had slipped. I have had off and on problems for months with being too tight and vomiting then needing a deflate. Crazy since I hadn't vomited since 1988, LOL! I never overeat but have vomited from drinking too fast, not chewing well, wrong food that has been OK before. I wonder how many slips go back on their own VS needing surgery? I am trying to eat only liquids and mushie foods. If I hadn't had a fluoroscopy exam I wouldn't have known I slipped.

Thanks again for being part of our group and keeping our stats!

Joan

End of Summer Challenge

Good luck to everyone.

Thanks Larry, you are awesome! Are you up to the task again for September?

Any suggestions for the name of our September challenge? The challenge will start September 1st. Tomorrow is our last weigh in for August. I hope this was a successful month for all!

Hello everyone...checking in on the last Monday of the challenge!! I'm checking in at 230 this week. Down 2lbs from last week. I'm only 1lb away from my goal of 229 by the end of the month.

Checking in this morning at 268.8. Doesn't look like I will make my goal, still 4.8 lbs away, but at least I seem to have gotten over that 270 hump I have been stuck at all month. The bad part is here comes another long holiday weekend with two parties and a music festival planned. I am just going to try to maintain.

Cindy checking in at 175.6. I didn't hit my goal of 172 but I got half of it. That's good enough for me! 3 pounds is more than I've lost in a month in a long time!

JulieG (nu2ywg) checking in at 214. I didn't make my goal but I did lose 5 lb this month which is better than gaining. I will probably join the September challenge but I'm going to have a personal goal to be below 200 by the time I go on my trip to the east coast in November. I haven't been there since we moved away in June 2010 when I weighed well over 300 lb and no one there (including my mother) knows I've had the band. My mom knows I've lost weight but no one else even knows that so I'm excited for the reactions.

Congrats to all of you who have made your goal for the month! Joan, wow, the band slipping doesn't sound like a good experience at all. I'm sorry that you have to be stuck on liquids and mushies, I hope that fixes it for you.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
