I'm just going to paste what I put in my profile-it sums up my experience thus far:

I just had surgery done on July 25, 2011. I chose to have lap band surgery with the plication option-something rather new for this operation in this area (Pittsburgh). It has only been a few days since surgery so I am still on liquids but feel happy with my decision. I chose to have the plication in addition to the band because this method helps prevent band slippage and aids in a quicker weight loss. The actual stomach is not cut at all but rather "puckered" in and stiched together, sort of like in a sleeve operation. So far I have done well on the liquids....It has been rough but I am fighting through it! My only concern is that so far even after I eat my Protein meals & drink liquids, my stomach is CONSTANTLY growling! I do feel full, but not restricted. I'm wondering if the band is loose to allow time for healing?

I have had minimal pain-roxicet was perscribed and works well. My incisions are nearly healed already and pain is slowly diminishing. My hospital stay was about 2 days. I have had nausea and diareahha, but no vommiting thus far! (knock on wood).

I am taking a chewable Multivitamin, my prescribed medications, and pepcid to reduce acid. I was also prescribed actigall since i still have my gall bladder, this medicine prevents gall stones.

Other than the constant stomach growling, I have had no other issues. I'm looking forward to eating solid foods again!!!

I'm starting at about 250 and looking to eventually get down to 130.

Any advice, questions, opinions are appreciated!!!

Hi Ashley: I was banded on 7/25 also. Doing well here. Not really as bad as I thought it would be. Surgery went well...doc said classic case.

Hospital stay uneventful (thank God). Home now and having trouble getting in enough Protein. Can't handle more than 2 Protein drinks a day. Get a little nauseas after that much. Really not hungry at all. Not even thinking of food. Is this how the skinny people feel??? Good Luck to you! CAT

I was also banded on the 25th. My doctor took my stomach and lapped it over the band and sewed it in place so it doesn't slip, not sure of the name of that procedure or if there is a name for it. I too have alot of gas and diareahha. Gas-x seems to help alittle bit with the gas. Pain is well controlled with oxycodine (percocet) makes me really tired and I sleep quite a bit. Getting tired and bored of sitting around already. LOL Can't wait to have some real food agin but that is a long ways off yet. It's pretty cool how we all were banded on the same day. Keep in touch and let me know how you guys are going!

yeah the pain meds make me really sleepy too! i am bored with sitting around as well!!! im thinking you may have had the plication procedure as well..,.they "pucker" your stomach in so that its a thin "tube" which allows for quicker weight loss & prevents band slippage. good luck with everything!!

The only advice I can think of right now is, don't let ANY question go unanswered between you and your doctor. There is no stupid questions when it come to surgery and more importantly, your future. If there is any questions you have for me, fire away... I will answer any question to the best of my knowledge. I wish you luck on your journey and keep us all posted!

Yes to my knowledge the Plication is all about keeping it in place and to help lose weight faster. Questions for me was. Can I see what the band looks like? How long before your first fill? What exact procedure are you doing? Is your doc doing the plication precedure? What kind of diet will you be on pre op and post op. Because I see alot of people on here that have ALOT of different diets. I had to stay over night because of sleep apniea, will you have to stay over night? Just those types of questions...What I did was write down all questions I had on paper so I wouldnt for get what they were and took them with me to the doctors and just went down the list one by one. weather I thought it was a dumb question or not. I am still on a liquid diet right now and will be for another week. Yes I do get hungery but Protein shakes help ALOT. I make it like a smoothie milk, any kind of light flavored yougert, some fruit, and Protein powder. Put it in a blender and blend it all real well and drink. Delish! LOL in between I have suger free popsicles, broth, Water, coffee, tea, pudding, Jello is a huge help for me, basically anything that is liquified and non carbinated. I have even been a bad boy and had some soft serve ice cream. Your first few days after surgery being hungery is the last thing your body is concerned with. When I do get hungry and it aint time for a Protein shake, I just eat a fudge pop or one of the things I listed above. Hot things make my belly feel better if I am having a spell of pain. My doctor has told me and gaurnteed me that if I follow the "rules" I will not have problems. I cant speak for food issues as i have not had any yet. But i do know I have to SIP slowly on liquids and I do just fine. I hope this has helped you. anything else i can help you with feel free to ask.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
