Lap Band size differences?

Recommended Posts

OK 2 Questions here:

1)How do u know which size u r to get? Is it based on frame size? Amount of weight to lose? Size of ur stomach?

2)What does the size mean then?

I didn't even realize that the bands come in different sizes. After I read your post, I started doing some online searching. I didn't find much, but I saw some posts from other sites that indicated the band size is basically the surgeons choice. He/She chooses the size they think will fit on your stomach the best. Incidentally, I saw two posts that referred to patients with the larger band size as have the most trouble finding their "sweetspot".

Maybe someone else knows more.

my MD told me that it is based on the size of your stomach and what they feel will fit best. When I asked about the Lap band vs the realize band my surgeon said she mostly uses the realize band on males (bc they tend to be bigger)..... hope that helps a bit!! :D

My surgeon allowed me to make a choice based on my own research, however, she did caution that she would make the end decision when she saw the size of my stomach. That leads me to think that the stomach size is really the deciding factor. One of the main differences between the Realize and the Lap Band is the way in which the port is affixed into the stomach and the other, of course, is the size of the band itself. I would suggest you get brochures for each and do your own research so you can be most informed.

Yes I did notice the different sizes. I think I know I have a 10cc band. I have had 2 fills of 1cc each. Maybe that helps you learn the differences, I am learning too. I am so glad these chats are happening, they help so much.

i think the size of the band is based on your anatomy and the great curvature of you stomach, so i think it's strictly up to the surgeon

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
