So i just had my band surgery on Thursday July 14th! I had a follow-up visit with my primary doctor on Monday and had lost 6lbs in 3 days. I will see my surgeon for follow up on the 21st and am excited to see if I have lost more. I am still in a little pain mostly gas pains. I do have lots of questions now that the procedure is done. I notice that I am starting to feel hungry even though I am still on the clear liquid diet. Usually a little Jello or Water and that disappears. Anyone have any advice on what you could/could not eat in the first 2-3 weeks? How fast did you continue to lose weight after surgery? How long until you could go back to work? The dr says 2-4 weeks but I am already getting cabin fever! Sorry for so many questions I feel like I am on the right track and would love any advice.

Hey there! I haven't had my surgery yet so I can't give any ideas as to the after diet but everything I've read suggests that banders are able to return to work after a week -- or at least that's what I'm hoping for! lol

Here is a link that was posted in another thread for July banders:

Hope it helps! Hugs and Congratulations!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
