How many calories are you supposed to have right after surgery? I have had less than 400 or so per day since surgery by following dr's instructions - does that sound right? I just feel so sluggish.

I was eating 300-400 a day till around week 4 - since then I average 650 a day and feel satisfied- Are you taking Vitamins every day? And do your vitamins include D and B?

Not many, that's for sure! I did Protein Shakes made with Water 3x a day and then just broth or sugar free jello... so probably 500 a day at the most. It's hard. You might feel really weak. Just take it easy and be kind to your body.

Thanks so much. I am having trouble getting the shakes down so I am simply going to have to force myself until I can get to the point to where I can eat.

What about other nutritional values? How many carbs? I have asked my doc this question, and all he says is "just be reasonible" Im the type of person I go better if I have certain values that I should meet... Is there a certain caloric intake that we should "at least" get to...?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
