What is the rationale behind no caffeine?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering the rationale behind the no caffeine, or very limited caffeine? Does it harm the pouch or stomach?

It just depends on your Doc. Some don't even care. Mostly 'cause they say it makes you more hungry, (and a little hard on your gall bladder which has to work overtime as it is because of all the drastic diet changes), but that's just cause it gives you energy which in turn speeds up your metabolism, so it's kinda like... "hmm"... I drink it anytime I want. :P

My doctor stated that caffeine makes you hungry. I still drink it though; not in soda but in

coffee. I have about two 20 oz cups of coffee a day. I no longer drink soda. I have lost 70 pounds since January of 2010, so I don't know if that is good or bad. r

Thanks for the answers! I was feeling a little guilty today after a morning cup of joe, but now that I'm actually now fully awake and know the rationale behind what they say, I feel okay about it.

My doc says everything in moderation. Unless he told be that the band would blow up or something if I drank coffee I would never give it up. Can't. Don't want to either. In fact I'm drinking coffee right now as I type. Love it love it loooooove it!

Yup, caffeine is an appetite stimulant, so while it's wise to ease up no need quit completely. I did cut back a little on my morning coffee after surgery, but still can't function without some! My doctor also says everything in moderation. He doesn't get all worked up over having some junk food now and then...just keep it at a minimum. As for Creamer, I used to be a huge creamer junkie. I found that a bit of skim milk and a packet of Splenda does the job just fine. :)

My doctor encourages drinking coffee to loosen up the band in the morning. It doesn't make me hungry, it curbs my appetite....always has!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
