Hippa question

Recommended Posts

Went today for my ekg. Turns out the man who did it is very good friends with my mom. My mom does not know about me getting lapband. I asked that he not tell her i was there and he said he wouldnt, then said he couldn't due to hippa. Is this true? Seems like he could say he saw me at the hospital but not say why an still be in compliance. Does anyone know?

My understanding is he can't say anything about seeing you at the hospital until you give him permission to do so.

Ok. Thx. I told him not to tell and he seemed sincere when he said he wouldnt.

I work at a hospital - he could and most likely would lose his job if he mentioned it to her. We never discuss patients regardless of how well we may know them

If he works there and you were there for treatment/procedures, he can't say anything.

But don't forget all the release forms you blindly sign when going through admissions. Those would probably protect the hospital from any lawsuits, and the hospital will discipline the employee.

When I see new patients I need all the release forms signed just to be able to talk with the insurance companies.

Hippa is Hippa and all the release forms in the world aren't going to change that. An employee cannot discuss a patients care with her mother or anyone else.

Yes he'd be negligent if he told anyone anything, even if he said he saw you at work. He'd be open to lawsuit, as well as the facility.

hippa is actually....HIPAA...but the point is...your health information is safe and secure. Plus....like cindy mentions... disregard the release forms... HIPAA's sole purpose is to protect your information.

Or... let the gossip happen... and then you can SUE!!!

I'll just ask for a modest 10% finder's fee rolleyes.gif

I work in the Medical Field and NO he cannot say anything including seeing you at the hospital UNLESS you give him written permission. HIPPA is a federal law so youa re safe unless he wants to lose his job

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
