Long time bandsters, what do I have going on?

Recommended Posts

I have been banded since 2004, operation done by Dr. Fromm in Dalton, GA by Weight Management. Dr. Fromm is one of the doctor's with Dr. Jaime Ponce. All was well & dandy until Saturday. On Saturday I seemed to notice that band was feeling tighter than normal, & seemed to be causing some slight pains. Saturday night, I was experiencing night cough, didn't sleep a wink. Pain still there, slight pb'ing (mostly saliva or whatever I drink) to just downright throwing up as I can't eat a thing, lots of bloating & burping that I normally do not have. I haven't had a fill in years. What in the world is going on with this thing? Any ideas?

I will be calling weight management this am to make an appt. to see exactly was is going on.

Back history: Biggest weight was 331. I am now down to 208.Goal weight on 180. Had my gallbladder removed a few years ago. No other issues, except I have no thyroid. It just quit a few years & needs to be removed.

Sounds like you could possibly have a slip. Yikkes! Maybe you just have swelling. My doctor says that you shouldn't have pain with your band (once you heal from surgery) and that he wants us to call if we do have pain.

Try to keep some liquids down if you can by having tiny, tiny sips. Don't want you getting dehydrated.

Good luck with your doctor. Tell them that you need to be seen today. Please let us know how you make out.

With all the heat and humidity, your band may have gotten tighter and you may need a slight unfill. I doubt if it's a slip unless there's more history of trouble than what you give, but I guess it could be. I'm betting on the heat/humidity factor. I got suddenly tighter one day this past week for no apparent reason. Fine now.

When my band is tight, sipping hot tea or coffee will sometimes loosen it a bit. You might give that a try.

Glad you are giving your doctor a call, do push to be seen today, especially if you still can't keep any liquids down. Dehydration is no joke.

Let us know how you are.

Well, it turns out that if you drink half a gallon of lemonade during a horse show, it may upset the acid in your stomach causing the lining to get aggravated. Once the lining was aggravated, it just pretty much shut me down when it swelled under my band. Lol! They just took some of my fill out and turned me loose. Instant relief.

Whew. Glad to hear it was a simple fix.

That's the truth. I was paranoid about it being a slip. I think they were also, seeing as I had been to see them since 2007. I feel good as new and everything looked great!

how did they figure that out?

Apparently, they have had a lot of people come in with complaints about it and seeing as that was the only thing I had had before I started having problems, it kind of narrowed it down. Lol!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
