please help me! Swollen and dont know what to do?

Recommended Posts

So I have been banded for 5 1/2 weeks now and a few days ago I got stuck on some chicken(shredded tuna kind)

Ever since then I have had more off than on episodes of feeling tight. I have read that going back to liquids helps.

Is this true? So confused on what to do. I keep getting stuck. I know now what its like to slime and PB. THIS IS

AWFUL. I have lost 24 lbs so far and I am losing very fast from not being able to eat. I ate Soup and was fine so

I go to more solids and bam, stuck again. How long does it take for the swelling to go down? Or are these signs

of slippage? I dont have reflux. Please help.

I'm confused... why haven't you called your doctor about this? From everything I read, you should go back to liquids only for a couple days while the swellng goes down. However, if something like that happened to me and I kept getting stuck, the first thing I would do is call my doctor. I really urge you to call yours...

Have you had any sort of fill at all? Did your doctor put any saline in when you were banded? You definitely need to call your doctor and tell them you're not able to eat solids. This is a big problem. It doesn't necessarily mean slippage, but if you're that tight with no fill, there's something going on.

Mindy,

The first thing you should do is call your doctor. Until you get an appointment, going back to liquids and even mushies would be a good idea. The "shreaded" meats give most bandsters problems. You may still have a piece "stuck" in your opening causing you to PB & Slime. If you have PB'd a lot then you more than likely do have a lot of swelling.

Your doctor many need to take out some of your Fluid to help your swelling and give you the ability to eat solids again. The band makes the stomach very touchy. It can take days for it to go down - depends on how inflamed you are. If you continue to become sick on solids, stick to the mushies/liquids. You don't want to continue getting sick, which can cause a slippage.

#1 Call your doctor tomorrow morning

#2 Stay hydrated and try to get your Protein in (through shakes/supplements) - keep your strength up.

Oh - another "rule" - If you can't tolerate shredded meat. Don't eat it...EVER.... I have NEVER not gotten stuck on shredded meat (I too was stubborn and tried it - just in case)...If you are going to try solids meats - make sure you cut your portions up into little bitty pieces (like what you would feed to a toddler) and chew chew chew...until there is nada left to chew...and make sure they are not "dry" meats...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
