Are ALL LapBands stitched in?

Recommended Posts

12 days post op and don't have any problems yet. But as I read this board I understand that the Lap BAnd is stitched to your stomach during placement.

ARE ALL BANDS STITCHED IN PLACE?

Or is this another surgeon choice?

My understanding is that not all surgeons stitch the stomach around the band.

I'm sure they all stitch them in place.

I'm not sure if they all are but mine is. My Doctor explained that he would attach the port to my stomach muscles.

I believe it's the surgeons choice. If they were all stitched to the stomach, pulled up and around them. You would have less Band Slippage.

That's why mine told me he stitched it to the stretched over top part of the stomach, so I wouldn't have to worry about slippage.

"JUST A LITTLE XTRA SOMETING FROM ME TO YOU, THIS IS SOMETHING THAT A LOT OF SURGEONS DON'T DO." Is what he told me. I thought GEE how did I get so lucky??? It felt like someone had grabbed me by the throat, and just kept squeezing 24/7. "YOU'LL GET USE TO IT!"

Now I am glad he did. I got use to it, and that little 4cc band is doing just fine.

That was almost 5 yrs. ago.

Thank y'all for the answers. I didn't even think to ask that question. So many people and articles talk about "placement" of the lap band...not so much about stitching it in. Gonna ask my doctor on the next visit. I would bet that he is so meticulous that it is stitched into place.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
