HELP!!! Anxious about my surgery!

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I am officially scheduled for banding on August 1st. I am really excited. The only thing is my mom and a few other family members are trying desperately to talk me out of it. I am nervous about surgery in general and the people closest to me are trying to make me second guess my choice as a 32 year old adult. My mom flew off the handle and was offended that the Surgeon (Who I used to work for and I trust) advised me I was obese. (THIS I ALREADY KNEW) My mom was like, "how dare him call you that"? Well I am 5'3 and 210lbs. She keeps saying he's letting me have the surgery so he can get the money from insurance. I assured her this is NOT the case. Has anyone else come across people being negative about their decision? How did you handle it?

My mother, who is currently 600 pounds, was against the surgery when I first mentioned it to her for myself 3 years ago. You will always have people who are against your efforts to improve yourself, and a lot of time it is simply because they are jealous that they are not brave enough to take the plunge and improve THEMSELVES. If you are ready for it, go for it! All the best of luck to you :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
