Onederland? Sorta. Kinda. Eh?

Recommended Posts

Tuesday, while on my daily bike ride, I got really sick. Puking off the side of the bike trail sick. I sweated profusely all night, before the fever came. That day, I was 207. I have been vomiting and in and out of the Urgent Care ever since getting IV, ass medicines for nausea and fever and potassium. Anyhow, I'm sitting now at 191. Well, that's what it was before I went and saw my primary care provider today, whom then sent me to get some more IV fluids and 20 ml of potassium (rinse and repeat tomorrow), so I could be more. Probably not much more though.

I'm soooooo freaking happy to not be puking today. I wish the crossover to onederland wasn't so iffy like this. I don't think I'll rehydrate myself up and back over 200, but certainly most of the 16 lbs lost is all Fluid. It was a hell of a way to lose those few significant-to-us pounds.

The thought is that I got sick-sick, and all my retching really pissed my stomach off with the band. Blech.

In less than 12 feeling-better hours, I got back up to 202. Today my scale is giving me anywhere between 199 and 202 (isn't there any good scale that doesn't cost a fortune?).

So, I think I may change my ticker to 200lbs and eagerly await for a well-hydrated weight of under 200 :) .

Geez, I have never lost so much weight while sick. I know it's not weight-weight, just my fluids and such... I'm just saying that I almost freaking withered and crumbled away, lol.

Holy cow Spot! That's scary to think one can lose that much weight just from fluids. I'm glad you're feeling better, and Onederland will be better when it's a true weight anyway :)

I'm just trying to make it to Twoderland by September 8th when I go to a family reunion. 30 lbs to get there ;)

Ugh, I got sick again for about two days.

I went into urgent care again. My doctor called my Lapband doctor and they all decided to unfill me and let my stomach settle down and heal. Of course, there's nobody that has ever done such a thing in Nowheresville, Wisconsin, lol. Fortunately my Lap-band doctor did a good job explaining how it's done to the hospital's surgeon, whom seemed awfully excited to be learning how to do something new, lol. They made sure they had the proper needle to do the unfill, but no flouroscope. That seems sorta unnecessary considering you can totally feel my port, and you can see where I've been stabbed previously. Plus, I've been filled a few times before, so I knew that the surgeon had to press down a little harder to get through the port. Despite me being willing to do just about anything to stop feeling nauseous, I was plenty sure everybody had this unfill under control. My gallbladder and that surgeon have already played nicely before, so I knew I had a guy who wasn't going to mess around.

Anyhow, he took out around 5ccs. I had 6.4ccs in before, I think. 6 and some change, at least.

I don't have any big plans on eating solid food anytime soon. I think I'm going to do a nice, slow, gradual liquid to mush diet. I'm not ready to be sick anytime soon, so I'm not going to push it. But, now that I only have 1cc or so left in my band, I sure hope I don't start gaining weight before I get filled again.

Blech.

I am so sorry this kind of stuff keeps happening to you. Did you used to get sick a lot or have problems before the band?

Well, I've had post-operative nausea pretty bad before, and have always been pukey.

When I'm sick, I can't imagine NOT throwing up. My body will make me retch until stuff comes up. Since 97% of the time nothing CAN come up past the band, I retch and retch and retch some more. I think this is definitely not working very well with the band (duh, lol). I need to somehow reel in my nausea when it starts. Snake oils, hypnotherapy, aromatherapy - I don't know. I need to get on top of it though so the next time I'm ill, for whatever reason, I can not traumatize my stomach so much with my incessant barfing.

I'm bummed I'm almost completely unfilled right now though. I really hope not to lose any ground while recovering, and getting refilled. I'm out of free fills with Dr. K, so I need to find someone more local. I don't want to pay for fills and airfare, after all.

Oh, it's only $25 per fill/unfill with Dr. K. That's not bad. I'll probably keep going to him then.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
