I'm constantly tired...

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'm writing because I couldn't really think of who else to ask for help. In any event, since I had my surgery (almost a year ago) I am CONSTANTLY tired and have such a hard time focusing. I can sleep non-stop. My nutrition isn't horrible or anything, but I don't eat much. I'm even on adderall (for the focusing, because it got that bad...for those of you who don't know, it's a stimulant people with ADD take to focus) and I'm STILL tired. I am so at the end of my rope, because I am doing SO poorly at school and work because I constantly feel like I'm falling asleep!

I feel like it's related to the band because it was never a fraction this bad until after my surgery. Has anyone else experienced this or know how to combat it? I'm going crazy over here!

Thanks for your help!

Have you had bloodwork done? I'm wondering about your Vitamin D and Iron levels.

My Vitamin D was low last I checked, but not by much... I have been taking a supplement for it though. As far as I know all other Vitamins are good.

That is frustrating! I agree then that it might be your Iron level. I have problems with iron, and I definitely had been eating enough of it, but I have problems absorbing it; so I've had to take an iron supplement for a few years because my iron was always low even though I thought it couldn't possibly be.

How is your Water intake? I notice that if I don't drink enough I feel exhausted. Also make sure you are getting the required amounts of Protein or you will feel like crap too.

If you haven't brought this up with your doctor please schedule an appointment ASAP.

How do you sleep at night? Maybe your meds need to be adjusted. Feelingtired all the time can be related to how well you sleep at night. Your meds may be keeping you up at night (my DH takes them too).

It could also be related to stress or depression.

Are you getting enough Protein and drinking enough Water?

There are SO many things that could be causing you to be tired that a doctor realy needs to rule out first.

I think most people on the lapband have energy due to the weight loss-the only thing I can think of is a lack of nutritants.

Hope you find your energy !!

I have found that if my Water intake is down, so am I. I tend to let is slip in cooler weather. If my Protein intake is low, I am exhausted. No matter what I eat if it isn't the right stuff it doesn't do anything for me. If I don't try to be active I become a stone. While I really don't exercise, I try to move around the house doing the daily chores. I take an Iron pill twice a month, all my system is able to handle. Calcium, Multi Vitamins, B6, B12 and Biotin daily. I am over 50 and have many "life" issues that can keep me down. The supplements help me to feel better. You really need to eat, simply put the car needs gas (sry) to make it go. If you are tight in the mornings, I am, try a Protein Drink like Carnation Instant Breakfast or SlimFast with skim milk. Deli meat and cheese take care of my lunch, or a grilled chicken tender and a veggie at lunch. Somethings I have learned recently about how it is supposed to work is because my husband now has diabetes and food intake is his control. I wish this had been explained to me with the lap band. Our bodies just won't drop the weight if the right combinations and portions aren't provided. It is about so much more than calories. Also, sleeping might not be restful enough. To much sleep can be as bad as not enough. Try to put eating right and sleeping on a schedule.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
