Thank you all for your support and kind words. I just came back from a vacation with my whole immediate family. We went to Atlantis in the Bahamas and had a great time with the kids and grandkids. I told all of them what I was considering and they all told me I should go for it. I have never taken a step like this for myself....ever. I always put the kids and family first. They all supported me and with all of you in my corner..... I will go for this on July 25th. Getting excited now!!!!!Thank you and pray that all goes normally without any complications. CAT

:D CAT, Good for you!

We all need to do things for ourselves sometimes. I wish for you the very best, and will be remembering you on the 25th. I'm sure things will go well. Please keep me posted on your journey. I'm hoping to be banded probably sometime in September, so anything you can tell me would be greatly appreciated. Take care!

Woohoo! for Cat and Peps. I think that we are only as old as we feel. I know since my surgery, almost 2 year now, I feel a whole lot younger, and look it ,too! Good luck and keep us updated. Karen

Thanks, Karen. You lost 100 lbs? How wonderful!!!! That what I need to do. I also have had to wait a year which was required by my ins. I have a life coach that I've worked with on a regular basis. The year will be up Aug. 16th and I have an appt. with the surgeon on the 17th. I had already done all the other things--dietitian and psych eval. I'm just ready to move forward now! Appreciate the support. Peg

Hi to all my senior bandsters: Finally got banded on Monday. All went well thank God. No complications with the surgery. Not too much pain. A little easier than I thought. The liquid diet is rough. Its hard trying to get in all the Protein required. After a while the Protein Drinks get me nauseas. Trying to be creative.......hope it works. CAT

I will be 62 in Sept. and was banded this past April. I am thrilled with my results (44 pounds). I've heard we 60ers loose slower, but I am right on target. I feel better than I've ever felt. I am not worried about complications. I do everything they tell me to do, so I don't foresee a problem.

After fighting for this with my ins I finally got approved--now I'm having second thoughts about doing this. Do you think those of us over 60 are being unrealistic about being banded. I need to lose about 60 lbs to be comfortable with myself (165 lbs). Have high blood pressure, knee pain, back pain, urinary incontinence. I am wondering if it is worth the risk of being banded. I am not too worried about the surgery itself since I have full confidence in my surgeon......but the long term complications I have read about are really scaring me. Sorry for being negative ... need to make my decision soon. I know if I don't do this now I will never have this opportunity again.

Hi Sandra,

I'm 59 and hoping to be banded in September. It's been a long wait. I, too, live in Virginia. Yeah for Virginia!! I live in Victoria (50 miles southwest of Richmond) and will having my surgery with Dr. Matthew Brengman with Dominion Surgical at St. Mary's Hospital. I can't wait. Your loss of 44 lbs. so far is remarkable. I hope I'll be able to do as well. Take care!

Peg

Hi all: Well I did it!!! Was banded on Monday and really did well. Dr. said I was a classic case....whatever that means. Not too much pain at all....was walking by 1 pm and the surgery was done at 7 am. Went home the next day by noon. Only took Tylenol for a little discomfort the first night. This full liquid diet is hard....but I really cant say I am hungry. Guess I'm still swollen. To all those not banded yet....go for it. As everyone told me do this for yourself! Its our time to shine.

Just asking -- does anyone take Tylenol PM or a sleep aid? I can't sleep without taking something so I'm wondering if this is okay to do with the band in place.

God Bless all of us making this choice to improve our lives. CAT

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
