You need a second opinion! I had one too and never even knew it until I got my band. It is really quite common. You know some DRS prefer one weight loss surgery over another. Maybe this DR likes bypass. Good luck!

Yes, yes, yes--find another doctor. Get a second opinion. And a third, if necessary. The doctors I've talked to said they would repair any hiatal hernias and not a single one of them said anything like "unless it's too big."

Don't get sad--take your (insurance) money elsewhere and get even! ;)

I was banded 6/23. After surgery I was told that I had a hiatal hernia and that he had repaired it. I felt some tightness in my chest post surgery and assumed it was from the repair. Doing fine now.

This was my second surgeon as the first turned out to be a dud. Don't give up! Get another opinion and another doctor if necessary!

I have a hiatal hernia also and they will be removing it during the surgery..have they even considered that option, and I am surprised your surgeon didnt have the EGD done before setting the surgery date

Ann

Well where do i start..im so sad and disappointed! I 'm scheduled for lapband on June 30th but I might be cancelling it today. Yesterday I went for an EGD and the doc told me I have a very large hiatal hernia and he does not recomend going ahead with the surgery because of future possible complications (erotion, heart burn, removal etc.) He said he recomends me to have gastric bypass and that is a definate no!! I want to go ahead and do the lap band but then again is it worth all the pain in the future...I feel like I am mourning today because I was suppose to go for my pre-op Wednesday and start my pre-op diet Thursday. I was so prepared for this...especially mentally and now don't know how to feel....other than i'm going to be fat forever!! Have any of you been thru this? I need some advise..would you go ahead or just forget all the hard work I have put into this!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
