needs advice for my beginning stages

Recommended Posts

Hello to all. I currently 3 weeks post op and im at the pureed food stage. I will be getting my first fill in september. Ive noticed that some days I am more hungry than others so I def do not think that I will be one of those who never gets a fill. Im trying so hard not to fail at this journey so I guess my question to you all is...Has anyone experienced this feeling and what are foods or things that I can do to lower my hunger levels? I would love to hear any and all beginning stage stories. Another thing that I am experiencing is that my weight varies from time to time its seems to constantly be up and down. Is this normal? Thanks in advanced.....

i'm seven-weeks post-op, and i'm going for my first fill wednesday. i definitely have the ups and downs. somedays i feel really tight and others, i have a full appetite.

you must have a pretty conservative surgeon. by my third week i was already on soft food (not having to be pureed... i could have deli meats, ground beef, etc.). i can now eat everything and haven't had any problems.

i'm not a veteran at this by any means, and i don't suggest taking my word over your surgeon's, but how i've gone about it has been to listen to my body. when i started being hungry for something more substantial, i ate something more substantial. i knew that otherwise, i'd end up eating the wrong stuff and failing like i had at all my other diets. (i also think that a lot of us have a complex about failing, because we have on so many previous diets. i don't think it's a helpful mind-frame, so i'm working on being happy with progress, instead of expecting perfection).

as for the weight, how often are you weighing yourself? it's hard for me not to weigh myself every day, but i think it's good to maybe go a few days without weighing in. if you weigh too often, it'll definitely vary a lot, because a million reasons from Water retention to how full your bowels are.

best of luck to you. just know it gets much easier.

September???????

I had my first fill 4 weeks post-op, and 2 more 4 weeks apart for a total of 3.

If you're one that will depend on fills, which the majority does, you're going to have a rough time.

wooow so i guess i dont feel as bad now lol.My doctor is conservative but he said that I can have mushy foods but he wants most of my food to be pureed. I do eat eggs and other REALLLLLY soft foods but i dont over do it so i try to eat most foods pureed. He does say that after the 6 week i can have complete solids (im so excited). I do agree with you about the failure part. I try t remember that I am already doing 100% better with this than ANY OTHER diet before. I think that i become so consumed and obsessed with the fact that the weight is coming off that i get overly excited so i try not to weigh myself everyday but its hard because everttime i walk into the bathroom the scale seems to talk to me, so Im going to put the scale up lol. Thank you for your input.

Yea thats what i said when he told me september....but he explained that he doesnt want to risk a possible slip and that im doing very well and that september would be great for me. However he is one that listens to my concerns so I think i may have to Request that i have a fill sooner. I guess only time will tell.

I am 3 weeks post op as well and am on pureed food too. I've done pretty well I guess. I've been eating a lot of Soups. Like broccoli cheese and potato. I have also been eating mashed potatos and baked potatos. To get in my Protein I've been eating chili, refried Beans with ground beef and cheese with a touch of light sour cream. Also smoothie King has a smoothie called the Gladiator and it has 45g of protein in a small. It tastes really good and is only like 300 calories. I'm also eating alot of eggs and oatmeal. Trying to change it up so I don't get bored. Hope this is helpful! Good luck.

wooow awesome this is great...I def have some news treats. I didnt know tht there was a smoothie that had that much Protein in it. I would like to know something though...how much food are you able to eat because sometimes im hungry and ill eat until im satisfied but its def a whole lot more than wht i used to be able to eat a couple weeks ago. For example I used to be able to only eat like 1/2 cup to 3/4 of Soup and be so full, now today i ate a whole can of soup (that needed to have milk added). What amounts of food and liquids are you able to take in(if you know)????

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
