I am 6mos post op and I LOVED bread and Cereal. I would eat Cereal anytime of the day. Since before surgery my dietician had me stop cereal and substitute with eggs. I haven't eaten a bowl of cereal for 8 mos!! I don't even crave it. I haven't eaten a roll/bread at a restaurant which was a little more difficult but when I analyzed it....I realized my body wasn't craving it, *I* just wanted it since that is what I always did at a restaurant....eat bread before my meal. I am able to eat Wheat Thins but only at night. I am too tight in the AM and become more loose as the day goes on.

My day is:

Hot tea

Lunch-greek yogurt with high Protein granola

handful of choco chips or choco milk

dinner-chicken, ground turkey, and veggie or fruit

cheese and wheat thins

Breakfast: 12 oz soy milk with Chai tea for flavor (I'm too tight in the morning to eat but this gives me Protein, sugar, and calories to get me thruogh). If I'm not too tight (or it's later in the morning but not really early afternoon), oatmeal (Trader Joe's blueberry flax with 1 tsp dried blueberries and 8 almonds crushed).

Lunch: I won't eat at work because I'm way too far away from a bathroom to make it worthwhile. But I keep Protein shakes and Isopure handy and always have some Soup if I need it. Generally though I am not hungry at work so it's not a problem.

Dinner: usually 1.5-2 cups of food including: 2 vegetarian tacos (1-2 tbsp soy burger with seasoning, tomatoes, lettuce, shredded sharp cheese, taco sauce, light sour cream or greek yogurt) - OR - tilapia, green Beans, brown rice - OR - angel hair Pasta, broccoli, garlic, pine nuts, sundried tomatoes, fresh tomatoes - OR - Soup - OR - salad - OR - a tofu wrap (tortilla, tofu chunks, veggies, balsamic dressing, feta cheese)

Just wondering why you need to be near a bathroom to eat lunch? I wish I wasn't hungry at work...I have to go to lunch between 12:00-12:30 and I'm not hungry at that time, but by 2:30-3:00 I'm starving! This has been a challenge for me...because by the time I get home to make dinner for the family, I am ravenous and looking for anything to control the hunger beast. Doesn't help that we eat dinner late...usually around 7:00. I need to figure out how to spread out the food during the day.

Unless I eat something like Soup, that I know will go through without issues, I could get stuck and I can't be vomiting in my cube.

Ohhhh...ok. I have never had anything get stuck. I've only had one fill and I still have no restriction :(

I am waiting for the day that I actually feel full and my stomach is not constantly growling all day long.

Do you throw up a lot or are you just scared to throw up at work? I have only PBd a couple of times but each time I had plenty of notice where I would have been able to walk to the bathroom and take care of things. The only time I have heard of people unexpectedly throwing up is when they drink something to try to get a piece of food that is stuck to go down...from what I've heard, that can be ugly ;) .

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
