Any suggestions for exercise to prevent skin issues?

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any exercise tips to help provide assitance with the tightening of skin during weight loss?

I am in hopes that I can keep the skin under control as I move through this journey. I do know that some of it will be the amount of weight loss, and genetics, but i would like to know if anyone has found a secret in this process?

Thanks,

Denise

I don't believe there is a whole lot we can do for the skin. I believe it is mainly genetics, age, and amount of weight lost. The muscle tone underneath helps a little bit, as does hydration, but overall...you either have the elasticity to snap back or you don't. So sad.

I have a beautiful pair of bat wings myself...ugh. I use them to threaten my husband if he misbehaves! ohmy.gif Whip! The wave that keeps on waving!

I have worn Spanx underwear for years and I have never had a rash. if you don't have skin on skin and keep it dry (Gold Bond powder) this will help

Thanks guys. I guess I was hoping there was something that I might have missed in all of my reading.

Denis, I think the "batwings" are inevitable for me. Additionally a belly droop will be part of my "new body" as i lose weight. My husband has always thought I am gorgeous, so his mantra is, "whatever is going to make you the happiest." I am just now, after 30 something years believing that he might be right.

Funny thing, the few people I have shared all of the lifestyle changes, surgery and concerns with (family members) have all asked first, "What will you do with the extra skin?". My answer to them has been, "I will deal with that once the weight is gone, as it is sure not my biggest concern." My biggest concern at this point is trying to be patient until I can get filled to the right spot and feel good about each and every day.

ta....da....I am a Lapbander.

That is the best attitude. If the skin overlap gives you medical problems, sometimes insurance will pay for removal. I'd love to have the wings removed, but there's no way insurance would pay, and I can't see paying the money for it. It is purely cosmetic unless I injure someone by waving good-bye!

I'd love to have shirts fit looser on the upper arms though. I'd probably be able to go down a size. Oh well, I can thank my mom for my upper arms, they look a lot like hers. "Thanks, Mom!"

I love her to pieces, but why could she not have given me her dancing talent rather than this??? (sigh)

I exercise a lot, kickboxing 6 days a week. I'm hoping I can control some of it, I'm only 28, so I hope that helps too. My arms already look a bit flappy though. At this point the only things I would get done is my lower stomach if I have quite a bit there. Also I always promised myself when I lost weight I would get my boobs done. They've always been saggy and I've always hated them. The rest I'd be happy just being thin. If I cant find anyone who likes me for who I am, then it'll just be me and the dogs...lol

I think that it's indeed all about age, genetics and how long you were overweight. I like to think I made the best efforts possible. I worked out like a crazy person and tried to build muscle to fill out my skin where the fat had been. I had a Tummy Tuck because there was no hope there, but I did build a good upp0er body, even 130 lbs down. Don't be scared of heavy weight training. Muscle really helps everything pack in there better.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
